:-)  My daughter is 39 and has had UC for the past 4 years, she has been in a serious flare since last summer and was in the hospital for a week in January.  she has been on remicade and has had five infusions, she has not gone into remission but she is feeling a little better and her BMS have reduced still has alot of blood.  My question is do you think your colon can become so diseased that it can't come back.  When she was in the hospital they said she had pan colitis.  Thanks

I have pancolitis - basically means your whole colon has been effected by the UC, instead of just one section. I think if I am not mistaken even with pancolitis one can experience full remission.
33 yr old male. UC for 14 years. 5mg pred (tapering off), 12 pills Asacol per day, Dicyclomine (for cramps), 0.5 - 1mg Atavan per day (anxiety) when needed, Fish oil pills, Culturelle probiotics. Recent Endonasal brain surgery to remove non-cancerous hormone producing tumor on pituitary gland (And I am still more afraid of my UC!!)  "I poop in the woods because I can"

I have pancolitis as well, and have been into remission.  It's too bad all of the meds aren't working for your daughter.  Has she tried Lialda?  I was in a flare for 2 years before I started Lialda, which then put me into remission quite fast.

I was diagnosed with severe pancolitis over 3 years ago and i would say it seems like I have had a blood most of the time. Although I have experienced remission without blood urgency or mucus. I am currently at 10mg of prednisone with very little blood, mucus, and urgency. Not where I want to be, but getting there.
I think with a positive attitude and a healthy lifestyle your daughter will manage her colitis, but it's not going to be easy.
