This sux. I live in TX so I will definately try not to eat tomatoes.

The Food and Drug Administration said consumers should avoid raw red plum, red Roma or round red tomatoes, which have been tied to 145 salmonella infections reported since mid-April.

The 145 infections, including 23 people who required hospital treatment, were reported in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

Consumers may continue to eat cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, tomatoes sold with the vine still attached and tomatoes grown at home, the FDA statement said.

I plan to stay away from all tomatoes for a while (just in case). I'll wait until my dad's garden produces some.....home grown are the best anyhow.

scary and pretty much disgusting as to how the food supply can easily be adulterated...

Is the infection from one source?

It's strange, I didn't think it was supposed to be in Florida but at dinner last night they told us they weren't serving tomatos with anything... And we were at an italian restaurant! Good thing I was getting fettucini alfredo anyway.

Personally, I don't like tomatoes at all anyway but it is still pretty scary. It was lettuce before (a few years back) now it's tomatoes, I wonder what's next.

I love tomatoes, I love the smell of the vine snapping. I don't know it's just one of those summer smells. Also on TV have you seen the tomato hanger? You grow your tomato plant upside down.

I love tomatoes too. I noticed at the store the tomato section was a little sparse and I live in Missouri where there hasn't been any problems. I still am going to avoid them. It makes me wonder how much this affects the tomato industry. I thought about growing my own but we have been using fetizer on our soil for a couple of years and I thought It might be unhealthy. Not to mention my husband is convinced that something at our house is causing my UC(water soffner, soil, ect) even though I explained to him several times that it is unlikely. (I got sick after we moved in)

I heard about this, too! My mom saw a news report on it and it said that we can eat the other type of tomatoes that aren't listed.

I absolutely love tomatoes too so I'm glad that the vine attached ones are still a go. Because there is nothing more delicious then a fresh tomato sandwich!
