If they are internal, a doctor diagnoses it, 18 years ago I had internal ones and had a colonoscopy to diagnose. Not sure about the external kind.

I had internal hemmorhoids and I had no idea until I read the colonscopy report where my doctor found some. I always wondered that as well.

I had some external ones, I felt like I was pooping razor blades through barbed wire. I had flat blood on the tp, (meaning not clumply flare blood).

I did the prep h wipes, supps and creme, finally got a script for steriod supps that is what finally helped me.

Uuugh, I know how you feel, they are horrible. Try the other stuff first, that helped me 5 years ago when I first got them, oh and warm salt baths..........oh so much fun!

Like the exterior part of the anus is swollen, blue/purplish, maybe even one part that might look black. Basically swollen vein(s) around the anus, sometimes just above or below or around.

Do an images search on external hemorrhoids.....but don't get too freaked out at how some of them look like....can be scary....but it can be encouraging for us to deal with things early rather than waiting too late. Well, it does me, anyway.
