There is baby fever going on around my job. It seems like everyone is pregnant! LOL. However, my boyfriend and I have discussed marriage and eventually children. I am really concerned about being on Colazal, 6-MP, and Remicade during pregnancy. Is it imperative to keep taking the medications during pregnancy? I wanted to go cold turkey when it happens. Any insights?? I am also on Canasa suppositories.

Thanks!

Heather

When we were trying to get pregnant my doc told me it was better for me to continue taking the Remicade than to risk my health and the pregnancy by stopping cold turkey. I'm not sure about the 6MP - for some reason I think I remember that one not being OK for pregnancy. The docs told me being in remission was the priority for pregnancy. Good luck with your plans!

Hi! Sounds like u have plenty of time to figure it all out....talk to your GI about this subject also.

Colazal is a class B drug, able to be used in pregnancy. I am not sure which can't be used, remicade or imuran...check into this.

I took 6mp through out my pg, under the care of a perinatologist(high risk pregnancy doctor) along w/ my OB and my GI. They all agreed that remission or under control UC was better than flaring UC. Flaring in early pg, can lead to many complications.

I did not have any issues related to the 6mp. However, i did flare almost right away after being in remission 1 yr prior to getting pg. I ended up on 40mg pred twice during, and remained on 10 mg till delivery.  I went into preterm labor at 25wks, and stopped meds because i wanted to breast feed a preemie...i delivered at 34wks and breastfed till baby was 8wks old, and was flaring to bad and had to stop so i could get back on my meds ( u can NOT breastfeed on 6mp).

good luck!
