I was just curious.  It seems as if my medicines were working and I was getting back to normal.  Then my mom died about a month ago.  A week after her death, I thought I was starting another flare (due to stress)...had symptoms of more frequent bms and loose.  I never did experience much diareah, even when I had severe inflammation.  But I have no blood and my last flex sig just 10 days ago showed no inflammation.....even though the biopsies showed signs of UC.  I thought I was in remission.  Can you be in remission and still have lots of bms that are soft?  Or is that a flare?  What do you think...remember the flexsig showed no inflammation.  Thanks for your input.....Bellski

Deepest condolences on the death of your mom. I know how painful the experience can be.

Most of us have IBS as well as UC.....so, sometimes symptoms can become kind of complicated or conflicting as to the origin. Considering what's been going on....there would probably be something.

It's great your sig-scope results were clear visually. The biopsies would state that there would be obvious changes from inflammation...the way the cells line up would be indicitive of that even though you don't have any visual inflammation.

The fact that you have UP....you wouldn't really have diarrhea unless it would be food related or maybe a gastro bug..etc.

You are on Citrucel and high fibre....that could have something to do with your stool consistency.

Are you having multiple bms or still in the "normal" range for you?

Even though your s-scope was 10 days ago.....you might NOW be starting to have some inflammation......kind of the calm after the storm flare reaction. Sometimes an event itself....albeit severe....may not have as much effect on us as would dealing with the event afterward. A death of a parent, no matter the relationship (close or not), will still have emotional ties and can influence our body's reactions, etc.

You also just went through the worry of the dysplasia, etc.

I would strongly suggest you start the Canasa nightly at least for a week and start to taper to make sure you keep things at bay. If your symptoms worsen consistently rather than sporatically, you will be flaring in early stages....that's when to act, not when it gets too much worse.

Keep us posted.

Thanks Quincy. You know I do feel better when I do the canasa. I can't explain it, I just think it helps. I wonder if I could just stay on that even when I feel better. I have a lot of bms.....I should start counting....my guess is 5 or 6. I'm just going to go back on canasa.......eat a better healthier diet, drink more water and do the spinach thing...I bought a bunch and haven't started yet. I think that should help a lot. My doctor gets back from vacation the 20th so if I do these things for a week, I should have a better idea of how I am doing. Thanks for the condolenses (sp?).

I am sorry to hear about your mother. I am currently in a flare with no bleeding. Only about 20% of my colon is messed up right now but most times in the past even with just proctitis I had bleeding. So yes, it is possible to be in a flare without bleeding.

Yes, you can flare without blood.

You can use the Canasa as a maintenance medication.

I'm very sorry about your mother's death.

So sorry about your loss :(

Yes there are many varying degrees of flaring and you can definitely be flaring without bleeding.

Feel better soon :)
