So, when they say "'A drug based on this compound may also prove effective in treating inflammatory bowel disease and some endocrine disorders,'" do they mean just another medicine to relieve symptoms or a cure?

I really want a cure...

Not a cure....just to stop the lining of the colon from excreting excessive fluid...which is a result of the reaction to rid the colon of whatever is offending it.

There are symptoms such as electrolyte imbalance, malnutrition..etc that result in loss of fluids.

The other thing that I'm thinking...some communicable diseases might not be as easily spread if diarrhea isn't present.

Doesn't say what it is...sounds like an immune response med..not a colonic immobiliser such as Lomotil or Imodium.
