I have a quick question regarding the regularity of your periods.  I have been pretty regular the last probably 6 months (I was not regular at all before that) and since then I have been having frequent mini flares that last about a week or so and then I am better for about a week or so and the flares start again.  My question is, can the mini flares make my periods irregular?  I haven't started this month and I am about 5 days late.  My husband had a vascetomy, so unlikely that I'm pg.  Can having the flare ups take a toll on my body and cause me to be late or miss my period all together?  Thanks.

I haven't bleed in about two years (same time this flare started and a few months on a new pill) but my OB says that is just fine. However, when that time of the month comes my UC goes nuts. Now that I am not flaring it is more evident. I go from 1-3 bms to 10+ for 5 days. Hormones can make UC nits.

Have you talked to your gi or ob abouthis?

What meds are you on, Cara? I've read that prednisone and 6MP can mess up the cycles. Although UC itself could mess up your periods since your body is not "normal."

The pill really messed up my periods. But when I wasn't one them, I went back to normal cycles. I do tend to have a couple more and looser BM's around that time.

I am on Lialda and REmicade. I also take Prilosec. I have been on Lialda since Dec 07 and I had 3 infusions of the Remicade. I'm not on the pill. Usually when I have me period I also have a few more BM's too. Thanks

Yep, meds and UC mess up our cycles for sure! It's no fun, and I can tell you that I haven't had mine in 2 months; sometimes it can make steam come out of my ears. I just need the release!

Hi
I have been pretty regular with my periods but I always know when it is coming because the amount of bms increases triple fold.  Bad enough to have period but then bms on top of it.  AHHHHH

Having gone through three years of fertility treatments I got pretty versed on these issues. Hormones have an impact on your bowel habits. My colon always acts up when I am on my period. On top of that, your female parts and colon share the same space. As if PMS isn't enough to deal with!

I haven't gotten my period since feb. Ive been if its from low body weight, or meds. Im 5'8'' and 108 lbs, so it may be from that, but im also on pred and 6-mp. I never thought id miss my period but now i really want to get it because it seems like a sign of health.

I think your mini flares are from your hormones. Any flucuation in my hormone levels makes me have bad days. I have only had 3 really bad flares and all relate back to horomones.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one this happens to.

I do not take birth control and am extremely regular with my period.  Without fail, I journal about everything so I'm able to track this, about 10 days before my period the ulcers open up and I'm in the bathroom constantly with BM's and blood, then sore breasts, then the stomach cramping gets so bad with the onset of my period.  I swear I bleed both from the UC and from my period at the same time because the blood color is different - you know, darker period blood as well as much brighter red when I have BM's.  After my period I'm usually pretty good for a couple of weeks then the cycle starts all over again.
