Hi all, I sometimes accidentally skip my last dose of the day, should I then take 4 doses on the next day?  Let me know what you think.  Thanks, Bellski

Just leave it and take your regular doses the next day. Usually missing a single dose occasionally won't have any effect.

What exactly are the doses you take...you mean you take 2 pills 3 times a day?

If I've missed the night before, I take it with the next morning one.

I take 3 pills 2 times a day....3 in the morning, 3 at night.

I would not take the missed dose the next day. I think most medication inserts say not to do this. I occasionally miss a dose of Asacol, too, and I don't have any ill effects. Ask your GI or read the Asacol insert to be sure of what to do.

From what I have been told it doesn't really matter when you take your asacol. All in the am or spread out during the day. My GI said split up and take 3x per day... GI at Mayo clinic said you can take all at once...

If you miss take the next am..no big deal.

I am on Asacol as well and usually miss the last dose before night as well for some reason. I usually just beat myself up about it and TRY extra hard to remember to take it the next night.. I don't double up.

My doc has told me not to double up if it's only an occasional miss. However, I habitually missed that midday dose after I had my last baby, and I swear that led me to my major flare (well, I'm sure the hormones came into play, too!). But, anyway, a pill box is what finally helped me remember. I kept it in my sight (but out of reach of my little ones), and finally remembered to take them!

If your consistently missing a dose, you need to adjust your dosing schedule to one you can remember to take. If it's an occasion miss, just skip it and keep going.

Initially, I was on three pills, three times a day. I would always miss the mid-day dose. I talked to my doc and he said that as long as I got the nine pills, I could take five and four.

I've also read that another member just kept her daily doses out in a bowl by the computer - when she saw them, she'd take a few, by the end of the day, she'd had them all.

Thanks all, I was confused what to do sooooo.....I took four doses today, I don't think it will kill me. Nothing I can do about it now. I'll just try not to miss again. Thanks again, Bellski

I believe the dosing instructions for Asacol specifically state that if you miss a dose that you're supposed to take it soon thereafter. But, if you get close to the next dose then you should skip it entirely.

So, if you're taking it every 8 hrs (2 pills 3x a day) then, if you're within about 4hrs of a missed dose you should probably take it -- else, just skip it.

Something I've noticed with Asacol is that the more I take, the more upset my stomach gets. So, if you're having a particularly upset stomach on days where you take 4 instead of 3 doses, that might be why.
