Hello to All.  Over the past couple of days I have found this forum to be helpful so I figured I would jump in.  After a trip and stay in the hospital over father's day weekend and several tests later, I was diagnosed with pancolitis, mild to moderate they say.  Colonscopy biopsy results confirmed.  Been home this week trying to deal with this my first flare and on an information gathering mission to understand what's going on and what I can expect or hope for.  They've got me on Asacol, 9/day, along with multivitamin with folic acid. I know each person is different but it helps to know that I'm not the only one traveling on this bumpy foggy road where I can't see what's in front of me.
What have some of you found to work best for the anal soreness and itching?

Welcome to HealingWell, Sven. I'm sorry about your diagnosis, but very glad you found us here. You'll get a lot of information and support from the members here. Please do ask any questions you have, and let us know about you as you feel comfortable doing so.

I use the Cottonelle wipes to cleanse and usually A&D ointment for the irritation. It's very soothing, helps with healing and also protects the delicate membranes by putting up a physical barrier.
Moderate to severe left-sided UC (21 cm) diagnosed 2001.
Avascular necrosis in both shoulders is my "forever" gift from steroid therapy.

Welcome, sorry to hear you have this disease.  I use a certain type of toilet paper, it's more expensive but worth it.  Buy the kind with aloe or lotion in it.  I swear by it.  Good luck to you.  Wishing you remission asap, Bellski

A good haemorrhoid(piles)ointment will give great relief to itching/soreness.Here in the UK I use something called Germoloids, but there are many other good brands, wherever you're based.

You'll probably have many questions, being newly diagnosed.Don't be afraid to ask anything, even if it seems silly to ask. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people here, and they are very empathizing,we've all been through it!

Sven - Welcome to HealingWell! As you know, it's bittersweet to be here. It's so great to find others going to through the same things, but it's an awful disease to be dealing with.

I agree with the others about good TP - it's a must! I prefer the Kleenex Cottonelle Ultra, a purple package. I also keep the flushable wet wipes around for those times when my bum is super sore and needs the extra TLC. I have several types of ointment for my tush as well - A&D, Desitin, and I keep Aquaphor in my purse (it's great for any skin distress).

Hope to see you around!
