Hmm ok, so I know I'm flaring and I am back on hydro E's every night now.  But today for some odd reason I am extremely gassy, I have had frequent trips to the bathroom to expel nothing but black mucous and yellowish liquid.  What the heck does black mucous mean, if anything?  I know the yellowish liquid is bile because I have been having a trouble with that for the past 2 years and it usually burns coming out.  But the black mucous is a new one for me (usually it's clear or white).  And I went to wipe and noticed blood in the black mucous.

I don't have any experience with blood (or mucus really for that matter) but could it be blood in the mucus that is dark because its from higher up in your intestines?

Strange... I'm thinking the same, maybe it is because there is black/dark blood mixed in with the mucous giving it a mucous structure but blood color??

Usually when I go I have white or greenish/grey mucous mixed with blood.

I'm thinking it is blood mixed in w/ the mucous. Mine is usually clear too. Have you considered Remicade? Or do the enemas usually do the trick?

Blood would be my best guess also, and if it's black it's from higher in the colon. You probably should call your doctor because the enemas may not be reaching the affected area.

I've considered Remicade but my GI hasn't brought it up yet. I'm waiting until the point comes in which I don't respond well to the steroid enemas. I usually respond fairly fast to them but after being on them for the 3 weeks that my GI recommended and then an every other day taper is when I started having the black mucous. I started noticing it yesterday and then today I ran to the bathroom at least 8 times with nothing but that stuff. I also feel very (as Dakotagirl would say) squishy. I have to take my gma to my (and her) GI tomorrow so I may bring it up then.

Hi Sherry...it could be stool mixed in with the blood and mucus....definitely bring it up with the GI and keep us posted as to what he replies.

Did you ingest anything that was "dark" yesterday?

No, I don't think I ate anything dark. I seem to be better today - but the day is early so we shall see. But I will ask my GI anyway.

My mucus is often very dark red to black, and I bleed higher in the colon. When the blood brightens, I know I'm bleeding lower in the colon. I also have yellow mucus.

Well I brought it up to the GI today and he said that it sounded like it was old blood. He said if it continues to let him know.

I have the same thing lately. When I'm flaring I get black mucous. I'm going to my GI in a few days. I will ask him about that too. It seems that when my flares really hurt then I get that stuff.
