I seem to be itching here and there.  It isn't terrible but I just really hope I do not have to go off of the medicine.  So far I can just handle being a little itchy. Like arms, neck, head, etc.  I can take a benedryl if it gets bad.  Is it O.K. to be itchy?  Will my medicine still work or an I developing a allergy?  Do I sound parinoid?  lol  - Let me know what you think, Bellski

Hi....hard to know for sure. Do get your liver enzymes and kidney enzymes checked, however.

Have you changed your laundry soap or bathing soap/gel or lotion lately? Are you using a sunscreen? Are you using a self-tanning lotion?
Are you expecting your period?

Are you out a lot on the sun?

It could be the meds....it could be another form of autoimmune that affects the nerves of the skin...etc.

It's easy to be paranoid....take it to heart and get checked out.

Thanks Quincy. I have not had liver and kidney enzymes checked, is that a blood test? I was wondering why my GI had not requested blood tests, when I asked him about it a few days ago, he said, "We could do that." (Another good reason for a second opinion). I have felt this way (itchy) in the past too a long time ago, I think when I was taking some over the counter diet pills. It really isn't bad at all. I think I will start keeping a journal so I am prepared when I go in for my second opinion.

Call your doctor and tell him you want all the pertinent blood tests to make sure your blood levels are OK. That would include the autoimmune markers, etc.

Liver disease can go hand in hand with UC....but sometimes meds can cause some liver enzyme increases.

When you asked the doc....why didn't he write you up the tests and have you go for them? When was he planning on doing it?

Can you call and request to have them done rather than waiting for the second opinion?

Well, He didn't even think of it, I was a bit frustrated that I had come up with the idea. I got the idea from you all while reading. Anyhow, he said he could do it if I would like. At that point I just said to him that I have to go to my family doctor soon to talk about how my cymbalta is working and at that time I could have him do the bloodwork for me. It's just as well. I am leaning toward going to a more thorough GI. Hopefully Hanauer at Un of Chic. will be very good. Meanwhile, I have an appointment in July with the family doctor and if there are any problems with the blood, I'll do ......who knows what I'll do. I am so greatful to have all of your advice. I feel like I have a whole group of people that help take care of me. Thanks for being there. (O: Bellski
