Hi everybody,
I went to my GI yesterday for a follow-up and showed him my rear because I thought I may have hemmorhiods, he said I do, anpther thing to deal with.  Then I told him I will not have insurance for a while once my dh gets laid off, so I asked him if I should get a sigmoidoscopy soon, so I'm going to the hospital tomorrow to get one...... I hope there is some improvement in my ulcer by now!

I don't know if you can do it in America, but in Australia we can get a "travel script" allowing you to get up to 6 months of medication all at once. You have to buy it all at once, but maybe something like that would help you save some money that you can then put elsewhere.

I always liked the sigs more than the colonscopies because I didn't have to prep, until I moved to Iowa where they did all their sigs while you're awake!!! Definitely traumatizing. I'm glad to be back in Florida where they seem to have no problem putting me under for one.

Good luck and I hope it goes well, and hopefully your GI will give you a bag full of free meds after!!

How did it go today? I hope you got good results. I was surprised to hear that ediekristedn didn't prep for her flex-sig, I had to. I was also awake. It wasn't too bad.

The only prep they've ever had me do is nothing to eat/drink past midnight. Other than that, I've never had to drink any of the terrible drinks or do enemas; just for the colonscopies (which I haven't had one in three years and am getting ready to have next month! yuck)

Usually when I have the sigs, I have no prep other then using 2 Fleet enemas one hour prior to the appt. I don't have to limit my intake of food or anything. But I'm always awake for mine. Sometimes they're not so bad and other times it hurts like crazy when he's done from the pent up air.

Good luck, PrincessColon! Sorry to read that you're facing loss of insurance when you especially need it. What will you do about Humira? / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Thank you all for replying. The actual test was not bad at all and I like being awake and seeing what's in there. I had to fight with the nurses about not wanting sedation. So the test went smoothly but the results were not good. :(

At first, my GI was practically doing somersaults when he saw the ulcer, he was like WOW WOW THIS IS SOO MUCH BETTER...... We are all smiles....till he moved the scope further down and we saw that what we thought was the bad ulcer that had improved was a different small ulcer, and the bad ulcer was BAD. It looked like a canal, very deep with edges curling up somehow??!? I am shocked because I have been doing better since starting Humira but these findings are so disappointing. I am going to try adding 6MP to my arsenal next. :( It doesn't make sense, when I was on Remicade I was feeling worse than now and my ulcer had improved, now on Humira feeling better, the ulcer is worse?!!? I am so shocked, disappointed and scared.

I'm sorry to hear that the results were not good. At least they know what is in there to have a better game plan. Hand in there.

Aww PC I am so sorry to hear that. I know how discouraging it is. You have been dealing with this for so long - has surgery ever been discussed?

We have discussed surgery to some point but I am trying to avoid it.  I don't like the sound of the j-pouch and I am not ready to have a bag forever yet.

I forgot to add that I have some extra Humira and meds saved up in case I am out of insurance a while and if I run out for some reason, I will just pay full price for them, but hopefully it won't come to that!  The Humira alone is about $1,500 without insurance!
