Hi,

Curious about the following...

The last couple of bouts I've had have been accompanied by a very specific kind of foot cramp.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Could it be a sign of pending weight loss - body converting muscle to energy or something like that?

Thanks!

My guess is it could be that you are low on potassium, maybe eat some bananas and watermelon. Only a guess as I am not a doctor. I often have sore feet on the bottom, especially when I first wake up. I sometimes geet cramped up in my toes but I really have no idea if these things have anything to do with UC. I kind of feel like I'm just getting older and with that comes more aches and pains. With yours however, maybe the weight loss has something to do with it. Good luck, Bellski

Thanks for the suggestion. As I mentioned in my other post I'm in Vietnam - land of watermelons and bananas! I'll get stuck in...

I do suspect the cramps are in some way connected with UC they really seem to kick in at peak UC times.

sounds like you are low on potassium could be from taking the predfoam.

I got/get wicked bad foot, toe, calf and thigh cramps when on pred orally.  To combat this I eat a banana a day and when on high doses of pred I was drinking fortified juice w/480mg of potassium per 8oz serving 2 servings a day plus the banana and that really helped.

I'd start out w/a banana a day and see how that goes.  Local banana's mmmmmm!

Sorry that's old info -
not on pred now but there seems to be a growing banana consensus - if only all treatments were as delicious !

Coconut water is great for that! I use Zico ordered off amazon. I woke up the other night with a cramp in the anterior compartment of my leg, WOW! Stretching that thing out is near impossible.

It's most likely low potassium, as everyone has said. I used to get foot cramps right in the arch of my foot and my toes would sort of curl under and it would be excrutiating, and then I couldn't stand on it or stretch my toes out without making it worse but it was the only thing to do to stop the pain. Now that my potassium levels are back up (I had to take supplements for awhile because the pred really messed me up) I don't have cramps anymore.

I get cramps mainly when I am flaring really bad. It's b/c your body is lacking something and you may be over exerting your muscles. MInerals that help maintain fluid and electolyte balance include potasium, sodium and chloride. SOme foods that contain these are salt, soy sauce, milk, meats, brocolli, spinach, carrots, watermelon, bananas, strawberries.........
