Oh man, the other night I took some immodium and drank a bunch of pepto because my stomach was bothering me and I was going out with my friend. And amazingly, it stopped me right up.. unfortunately for a few days almost!! I barely went at all, just passed mucous blood and a tiny bit of stool. And I was so bloated, like you I thought I looked pregnant!! My period was being weird too and I actually took a pg test (it was negative) hahah. Then I went out one night, had some chicken tenders and fries, and went home and we played DDR (that dancing game) and boy did that really shake things loose. I swear I went to the bathroom 10 times, and I felt at least 10 pounds lighter afterwards.

So I can't give much advice except to say that it will pass eventually. Maybe taking a hot bath or anti gas meds will help.

I don't know what my problem is over the past two to three weeks. I think the way I sit at work has something to do with my issues a great deal, and has in the past also. It seems like everything is pushing upward into my chest. And the bloat feeling is unbelievable. What annoys me the most is the bad catch feeling I have in my left side, like a stitch in my side, not to mention the tightness in my upper gut extending all the way across. I've experienced this before, but not like this. And I stay highly stressed over this and that is probably causing 3/4 of it and making it worse.

When I am doing something to occupy my mind, like yardwork, I have no problem. I have this weird feeling also in the middle part of my back kind of down low, and it is tender. I hate these weird tingling, stinging sensations all over the upper abdomen. And I can feel the gas in my left side. This stuff is driving me crazy. It eventually works itself out of my system but not until months later. eyes Does anyone else have this problem??? I have no problem going to the bathroom, I'm just not going a great deal as I am eating less amounts of food trying to lose some much needed weight.

I really think more of my problem is stress and tension related due to the fact that my upper abdomen feels knotted up and there is a tenseness feel to my middle area of my back. I do not think my gas problem is really that intense. But late at night is when I do notice gas more. I think my paying attention to every little thing makes it worse also, whatever my problem is. If I cut out bread, cereal, cookies, and chips I will have nothing to eat. I eat bran flakes and Mini wheats for the fiber on a daily basis. I need fiber to stay regular, and don't eat chips and cookies a great deal but want them on occasion. I avoid pasta pretty much as tomato sauce I cannot tolerate. I cannot live on corn and potatoes. When my gas does present itself my upper gut develops a good deal of pressure. Bugs the heck out of me.

I was having this problem a couple of days ago. My stomach got so big I looked like a pregnant women. I was having trouble breathing b/c my stomach would not let my lungs fill out and I felt like a weighed a ton. I was miserable. I do not know what caused it. I told my doctor and he said just take some gas x. How comforting..

do any of the gas medicines work for you? I know we're not supposed to take them all the time (that's what I was told) but occasional use isn't too bad. When I get to the point where sitting is uncomfortable because things are shoving up into my chest I do get a bit of relief from GasX.

I hope you can find relief soon. Gas is sometimes worse than the loose stools I think

I had severe bloating and gas...my GI told me to take fibre supplements daily for the rest of my life and once my system adjusted to it (3 months for me) ALL my bloating went away and has stayed away and my gas cut back to very minimal hardly noticable...not to mention many other benefits like cutting my daily BM's back a ton, no more mucus, am able to eat fibreous foods with no issues...nothing but great stuff from taking fibre supplements daily, best advice I've ever gotten from a GI.

Also, I exercise regularly with cardio and weights AND, I eat a very healthy diet, no junk foods, processed foods/beverages, sugar or sugar substitutes (I use Stevia when needed) and these things also make a huge difference with bloating/gas issues.

:)

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it!  LOL  :)

I get this prego look soemtimes as well. Its almost always related to what I ate that day. If I have a pork chop for instance It's a given that I will swell.. and Chinese food does it as well. Maybe it's sodium intake ??

Another vote for fiber (with plenty of fluids), cut out or greatly reduce simple carbs and start on a quality probiotic. Gas and bloating are usually caused by an imbalance of bad gut flora. Simple carbs feed the bad bugs causing gas and making the overgrowth worse.

I'm not endorsing this product (haven't ever used it) but the information on gut ecology is good:

I'd never heard we shouldn't take gas medicine every day. My GI said to take gas meds. I take Beano every morning and it has helped reduce trips to the bathroom for only gas. I also take gas-x from time to time. I've noticed when we eat out is when I get the bloated pregnant look but I take gas-x at bedtime and it goes away by the next day.

I don't get much bloating at all, but I bet ediekristen's technique would work for me even without the exercise. Fried foods fly through my colon. I actually don't touch chicken tenders and fries anymore and they used to be my favorite and I live right next to a church's chicken.

Not feeling very well right now. Feeling so bloated and gassy. I cannot stand the tingling stinging sensations all across my upper gut. It is gas being pushed up into my upper gut of course just like someone else mentioned on this thread. This is driving me crazy. And you are not supposed to take anything for gas no more than 4 capsules in 24 hours, I hate the pressure from this, I can feel the gas moving around.

And I sit around just about all day worrying about it acting up, even when it is barely present or not present. And of course, this just makes it worse. My stomach is one very tense knot, partly from anxiety over it and partly from gas.  And of course it is sore from being tensed up. I go through this about 3 or 4 times a year. What do other people do on here to get their mind off of this annoying problem???

I would appreciate some suggestions of things to do to occupy my mind away from this. This stuff always takes months to clear up out of my system, but it seems to be at its worse at night. I have more bad days then good. And why it always seems like your insides are raw when this is going on I don't know. And this annoying catch feeling in my left side again is getting on my last nerve along with the tightness in my middle back.

I go through this all the time when I have these episodes but for some reason it feels worse this time.

Thanks for letting me vent.

I don't know if this will help you, but I get that tight feeling in my abdomen (I just assume everything is from Asacol), and I find it very helpful to lie down on my back and stretch my arms over my head for a while, and then gently massage the lower abdomen. It just comforts me.

I haven't tried taking Gas X for it yet. Honestly, I hardly take any other meds besides the ones my doctor prescribes b/c I worry about how all the meds will affect me later. I kinda just deal with whatever symptom I have.

Can intestinal gas actually be a symptom of ulcerative colitis? I have read that it is a symptom of colon cancer but I've never found a website that lists it as a symptom of uc. And that worries me as mine has been pretty intense on and off.

Excessive gas can be from IBD, IBS or even diverticulosis, pretty much any type of intestinal disease or condition can bring on excessive gas.

Count me in on the gas list. I swear that is the worst part of having UC for me. I always end up going to the loo because I am terrified that it may also be some not-gas.

Canasa helps with the urge to go, but so far nothing really helps with the gas. Beano wasn't doig too much for me, so I gave that up. I take 2 servings of benefiber a day. I can't eat too many veggies (those I do eat, I mash with a fork) as veggies with skins are trigger foods.

I am also in the same boat as some of the other folks. I don't eat sugar anymore, but if I cut out bread and pasta, I'm not left with a whole lot to eat. I guess I could try some gluten free stuff, but that gets really expensive!

I also started taking some heavy duty pro-biotics the other day. I'm hoping that helps.

I tried going to using fiber chewable tablets also to get myself back regulated but I know for a fact that has made my gas worse. I know it does that until your system adjusts to it but I cannot deal with all the extra discomfort from using that so I am cutting that back out of my diet. The benefiber dose says to consume 3 twice a day and the other type I have says two a day. To me that is the wrong thing for me.

I'm stressed enough over any gas but the extra until my body adjusts I cannot deal with. So I am just going to stick with fiber in food. It's obvious I cannot handle anything like lima beans and corn right now, I was so gassed up from both of those the other night I thought I was dying. Never again will I eat either one. I used to be able to eat both with no problem. But no more.

just remember that chewables have artificial sweeteners in them....ones that can cause gas and severe discomfort.

I would suggest the pills.

but read the package ingredients before consuming.

Hey Rey, this stuff does test ones nerves. Everytime I have a flare of this stuff, I stay tensed up for weeks. I haven't felt too bad today so far but now the gas is building in my upper gut. I am sitting here at work and my pants are pushing everything upward. This isn't so painful right now but has been at times. I am experiencing low pelvic cramping right now, just a slight case. But it is also a certain time of the month for me also and I've been totally out of whack where that is concerned since February.

I have been drinking a cup of coffee everyday and have tried eating some things that I haven't eaten in a while and my body is not adjusting too well. I have backed off the coffee. And am drinking more water, and have backed off on my fiber intake for a while until I can clear out. I am treating things preventatively 3 different ways, I take one Protonix 40mg a day, 4 Asacol 400mg a day, and use 1 1000 mg. Canasa suppository every other night. This gas sensation I'm having causes these weird tingling sensations.

I need to get my stress under control, that in itself can cause a person to develop cancer, according to a co-worker sitting here with throat cancer right now, but she was a heavy smoker. I need to focus on something else like I tried to do in the past, and eventually these issues cleared up. I've read to avoid fiber while trying to straighten out, drink more water, avoid soft drinks, coffee, etc.! So I am going to try and do that for a while. I go back to the gastro doctor on July 17th and have mentioned the gas feelings and the catch feelings in my side quite often and he does not appear concerned about it, and says the catch feelings in my side are not colon related.
