I don't do well with narcotic pain relievers so I usually just take Tylonel unless the pain gets intense then I go for Darvocet. Narcotic pain relievers should be used sparingly because it slows the colon down (which can be a relief at times especially if you are flaring horribly) but you shouldn't indulge in them. By slowing the colon down too much it increases the chances of toxic megacolon. Sometime though you have to just to be able to function. But basically any pain med that doesn't have an anti-inflammatory is safe for Uc'ers.

I also use Tylenol and Darvocet if the pain is horrible. But the Darvocet makes me extremely drowsy so I try to avoid it as much as possible.

i took endone (oxycodone) for 8 months during my last year+ long flare. needed it every 4 hours due to massive pain.
was hospitalised and on morphine for a week as well.
i am flaring again grr... and have only been taking panadol as i am trying to avoid going back onto endone, as you need to wean off of it when done, since it is like heroine.
but yea, i dont mind pooping 20 times a day (even though its only blood and not poop at all) if there was no pain.
its the pain that is ruining me.
another problem with the endone is the constipation issue. seems to be that issue with most analgesics.
catch 22 hey.

so if im in horrendous pain, i will take a quarter of an endone, usually helps.
and then try to avoid it for a while.
but basically on panadol at the moment.

make sure you stay away from ibuprofen (motrin, advil) as those are NSAiD's (non sterioid anti inflammatory drugs) as they cause inflammation of the colon and excerbate UC symptoms. very bad.
