Almost every morning till early afternoon my head feels cloudy and sort of dizzy. I'm not sure if it is from the Asacol or not. I am trying an experiment and stopped taking my asacol, I am on day two without it and I still have the weird head feeling. Has anyone experienced this feeling. I went to the doctor about 3 months ago and she attributed it to having colitis with diarrhea (although I never actually have diarrhea just loose stools). So I was just wondering if anyone else has this icky feeling.

Thanks,
Kim

hi. mesalamine products can make you dizzy, but my experience is that's when you first start it or at high doses. I feel dizzy in the mornings sometimes. It may be due to not enough sleep? I hope you feel better soon.

i feel that way a lot, even now after surgery, i have noticed that it is worse when i am sleepy or hungry, and also at times i find that if i feel that way and i drink alot of water or other liquidi start to feel better, dizziness can be a sign of dehydration, UCers and Ostomates are much more prone to dehydration than the general public, for obvious reasons, lol.

It really sucks to feel that way!! I'm glad you found something that helps!! Today I actually felt better even after drinking about 5 glasses of wine last night! I am on day three now of not taking any asacol. Having a little cramping now (never had it before) Did your doctor say it was a result of colitis? Thanks for taking the time to respond, I reallly appreciate it, it sure helps to know there are others in the same boat although, I wouldn't wish it on anybody!!!

Yes some days are worse than others.  Even when I am not in a flare and just have that tired dragged out feeling I get it.  Hard to function or think on those days.  You are not alone.

STacy

Current meds are:

Asacol 6 pills a day
Lexapro 20 mg once a day
Ativan .5 mg when needed
Canasa when needed

Your body is definately trying to tell you something. It can be a reaction to your meds or it could just be your flare is causing it. I know that Im bad off in a flare and my body is lacking something when I get get light headed and see stars. I actually see little lights flashing and circling around. It's the strangest thing. Eat healthy and try to reach remission and you will feel a whole lot better.

I get dizzy spells, I have been on every med under the sun and maybe notice it more often with the immunosuppresants but relate it mostly to UC.  It was getting worse a few months ago so my GI ordered my blood tests to check my horomone levels and B12 but they came out fine.  I down more water and Gatorade when I am feeling like that in case I am dehydrated.  The difference for me is it comes on at different times in the day and you are seeing it only in the morning, when do you take the Asacol?

yes, I get this a lot, but at different times throughtout the day/night.  Sometimes I go for several bad days with lots of these episodes then may go for days or even weeks without it.  I cant quite figure out what exactly the cause is - meds, flare, dehydration, uc in general - I dont know because I cant quite figure out the pattern.  I even had one day of vertigo last fall - primary Dr thought it was weather related.

I do notice though that if I get messed up with the meds missing several doses in a week then once back on track I notice the med dizziness again like when I first started on them.

I was taking the asacol first thing in the am (around 8:00) and would have that feeling until around 2:00. It is just an awful feeling, I could function alright but I would skip my workouts because of it. Anyway, i am now on day 5 of no asacol and feel about 90% better. I also am on day 5 of no sodas at all. I have been drinking Vitamin Water (it has splenda but I figure it is less than soda and better for you). I hope that feeling stays away!! I love your name-princesscolon!!!

I hope you figure it out. I quit taking my asacol (on day 5) and quit drinking sodas. I still feel it a bit but about 90% better. I notice you do enemas, what does this help. I am still new to this condition and have never tried an enema. I wonder if I should. Do you only do it during a flare?

I get bad dizzy spells/shakes 2 or 3 times a day. I'm on Mesalamine (2 pills 3x a day.) Started Mesalamine mid April. I still haven't seen my doctor about it. I'm hoping that it'll stop soon or I might just have to make another appointment with my doc.

I sure hope it does stop! If you end up going to the doctor, I'd be really interested to hear what she/he had to say.

Take care,

I got really dizzy when I first started taking Asacol. I don't get it anymore though. I think it went away after about a month or so. I am also on a much higher dose than you.
