Can someone please tell me how in the hell it is possible to keep your stress level down with this ******* disease?!?!  I've been doing so well for the last three days and now I'm bleeding again.  This is bull****.  I'm doing everything I'm supposed to be doing and for what.  I can't get my surgery until this crap stops.  I feel like I'm already dead!!!!!  Every single day the cancer is growing!!!!  And all everyone is telling me is to relax.  Don't get stressed.  Are you kidding me or what?!?!

I'm sorry for venting.  It's either this or trashing my friggin house!

I'm just so frustrated!!

Hi Lisa - I'm not on the board much so I am not familiar with your situation. What surgery are you talking about?

Don't lose hope. Flares come and they go, so ride this one out and try to be strong. If you've had another flare in the past like this, try to reflect on that and remind yourself that it went away too.. Maybe talk to your doc and let him/her know what is going on. Maybe there is something else he/she can suggest.

And, a lot of us deal with the stress by doing just what you are doing: talking about it. You're not alone though this. This board has so many people in similar situations, thatwe all can relate at least to some degree to what you are feeling, no matter the severity of our own conditions.

I know that having major surgery can put a lot of stress on your body but I would think that if you have a potentially dangerous situation that they would go ahead with the surgery anyway regardless of your flare. Flares don't have a time table and who knows when it can get settled. What meds are you on? Maybe if you create a signature we can know your situation more (10 lines or less though please). I can't say I can relate to your frustration on this matter but I can definately understand.

Hi Guys,

I'm sorry about that. I'm better today. Still having the big ole D but at least there isn't any blood. I'm just scared and frustrated and needed to vent. My kids are leaving for the summer tonight, so I'm also super sensative about that. Stress, stress everywhere and all the boards did shrink.....

I tried putting together a signature line. I hope it works. Thanks again for listening to me vent. It seems as though the only thing working right in my body is my temper!! LOL

Thanks,
Lisa E.

Lisa, I'm glad that you're feeling better today. You're going through a lot with just being diagnosed and then having the added joy of a mass on your kidney. That's more than anyone would be able to take.

I think that it's good that you used this forum as an outlet to vent, instead of trashing your house. After all, who wants to clean when you're feeling like cr@p? It's perfectly fine to vent here.

Any way you cut it, stress s^cks. Take it from someone who knows- it doesn't help. I've spent so much time stressing about finding something to make myself better. It doesn't work.

I'm just now coming to grips with the fact that I have no control over this DD. If I had an answer, I'd give it to you. I don't.

But, I know that ruminating (thinking over and over again about being sick and worrying about getting better) only makes it worse. I take it that you love yourself. Now may be a good time to show a little extra love to yourself. The best thing that you can do for yourself is to take your mind off of your illness as much as you can. (Easier said than done!) But, if you tell yourself that you're going to take between 4 and 4:30 (or any designated period of time, whenever) to think about gardening or whatever, then that'll help you to feel less stressed out. Exeercise can help reduce stress. Also, there's something called MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction). That might help you.

I hope your journey is easy.
Good luck.

Lisa,

try taking Culturelle - 2X per day instead of once...it may help over time. In the meantime, find an old pillow and tear it apart...there's nothing wrong with being upset, especially considering what you've been through.

You certainly have every right to feel as you do. Talking it out helps and so does just screaming at the top of your lungs and just crying may help. Good luck.

Hi Lisa,

It's no wonder you're stressed.  I think it's amazing that your UC is healing at all, that you stopped bleeding for a couple of days, considering the surgery coming up.  You must be doing something right to cope.

Have you considered asking either doctor for some kind of anti anxiety med?  Valium, xanax, etc?  Even a low dose might help you relax both your mind and colon a bit.

Sending vibes your way!

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the support. I just started taking the Culturelle less than a week ago and I'm also taking the Asadopholous Pearls. Isn't that too much? So far today has been really good. Just 1 1/2 times this morning. I say 1/2 because I think I didn't finish the first!! LOL Very little bleeding but not much forming. I'll take what I can get. I thought I was headed for a full-blown flare and that would have definately put me in a mental institution. The stress is just so overwhelming because of the surgery. If it wasn't for that, I would just deal with it. But everyday, the clock keeps ticking.

As far as tranquilizers go, no thanks. Not for me. I was addicted to opiates seven years ago and that was a cakewalk compared to a benzo addiction. I'm totally not a drug person. In fact, I'm terrified of all drugs - even tylenol. Taking all of these pills is also adding to my stress level, but that I'm able to deal with because I've convinced myself that the pills are for my own good and will help get things going with my kidney. Tranquilizers also do a number on me like you can't imagine. I took an Ativan a couple of times and it knocks me out for two days. Same thing with Xanax and Valium. My body just doesn't tolerate them well at all. Even with the smallest dose, I'm done!! LOL Thanks for the suggestion, though. I know they do wonders for a lot of people, I'm just not one of them. LOL

Thanks again for all the support.
