Hi everyone,
I have enjoyed reading this forum and finally had the courage to register today! This forum has been so helpful to me as I was just diagnosed with UC on June 18th. I was admitted to the hospital a couple of weeks ago with severe abdominal pain,  diarrhea, bleeding, and vomitting. At first I thought I had a bad case of a stomach bug. I am a preschool  teacher and many of my kids at school were sick with a stomach bug! Anyway after  the denial wore off and I wasn't getting  anytter I went to the hospital and many tests later the official diagnosis of UC was given. It should not have been a complete shock to me as my brother was diagnosed with UC 15 years ago and had to have his intestines removed because he didnt respond to any of the medications he was given.
I don't want to go on and on and bore everyone with my story, but I just wanted to introduce myself and thank everyone for all the great information! I look forward to being part of this forum.
Currently I am on prednisone and Lialda to try and get my UC into remission.

I think you will find this a great place for advice and to vent. Also, some people here are hilariously funny, so sometimes it's a nice escape for awhile.

Welcome to HealingWell, Jerseygirl. I'm sorry you have this diagnosis, but you've come to a great place to get information and support. The good news is that medical treatment of UC has advanced rapidly since your brother had it, and the majority of us are able to achieve remission and live normal lives without surgery.

We're happy to have you hear and look forward to hearing more from you.
