Dear All,
Happy 4th!
I've been having very hard BMs 1-2x a day for several weeks. Perhaps because of this I also have burning sensations in the rectum area. I've cut down on fiber. I think it might be some level of inflamation within the colon. I also have lots of gas, bloating and on a 2 occasions some blood. Sometimes there is mucus. Is it something that will go away with time (a seasonal flare)?
Best wishes to you all.

teacher,

I'm not sure about Tylenol, but I know some pain meds cause constipation and 1000mg is alot. Are you taking more than one tablet a day? Maybe Aloe Vera will help you (the one that does not contain sugar or yeast made by GNC)
ps.
Iron supplements can also cause constipation.

I take 2 Metamucil fiber capsules with dinner to soften my stools a little (and get some more fiber). They have helped a lot.

No, no enemas. I'm on asacol 400mg 3x/day. I'll try the metamucil. I didn't it would soften up the stool too. I get frequent migrane like headaches and I only get relief after a whole day (24hrs+) of tylenol. I've very short days since I'm exhausted all the time.

It could very easily be a first symptom of low in the rectum inflammation.
I would suggest you start the enemas.

If you aren't wanting to as of yet...you'll know soon enough if you'll need to.

Did you not remain on a maintenance enemas...let's say tapered to every 5 - 7 nights? or did you stop using them? can't remember what the deal is with them for you.

I used the enemas for 7-8 months before tapering them to a stop last Nov. These hard BMs, severe itching etc started about a month and a half ago. I think you're right about the low rectal inflammation. I'll have to go to the GI to get a new dose of enemas then. I tried the metamusil last night, but it didn't seem to do much about softening up the stool.
Best!

Do the metamucil continually...not a high dosage, however.

Definitely call the GI and see if he can call for a new script for you...or would the pharmacy be able to do that for you?

You should add probiotics if you haven't already. I take mine at night before bed.

Increase your water! I had very similar symptoms, only worse at times, I increased my fiber but because I wasn't drinking enough water got constipated. I would do higher fiber or metamucil and tons of water. I hope you get better soon, it sounds like a flare to me. I'm not too familiar with the meds you are on but canasa suppositories seem to help me with that burning feeling. Take ccare, Bellski

Hopefully, I'll get to reach my GI tomorrow. It could be a rectal inflammation. I only have urgency 1-2x a day. But the BMs are very painful since the stool is very hard in the begining. There is some blood which could either be from the inflammation or tearing up from the hard BMs or both. Later the stool softens up, so I suspect that the inflammation is near the rectum and may not be further up.
The probiotic I take is Flora-Q which is a mix of bacteria. It was suggested to me by the GI a couple of years ago and I take 1 each morning. I've also taken culturelle when I travel. I've been taking bee propolis too.
Best wishes!

Urgecy is the clincher .. so to say.... it's for sure early symptoms of a flare and you wan to keep it from getting worse.

My suggestion, or better put as a strong advisory, start the enemas.

I credit you for recognising it early...you don't ever want to get to how you were in the past. Mega kudos!

Keep us posted...
Oh, get lots of refills!

How long have you been taking the bee propolis? Are you sure you're not allergic to bees? Do you suspect the bee propolis may be the root cause of your issues? If so then stop taking the BP, and get on rectal meds regardless...also, how much BP are you taking/day?

Thank you all so very much!
The earliest I can reach my GI is the 24th of this month. But I'll start the enemas before then. I take 4 capsules of bee propolis/day. I've been taking them for over 2 years. Perhaps I've developed an allergy to them?
Best to you all!

I'm not sure if you can "develop" an allergy to them...they're suppose to be 100% non-toxic as well, but if you've been taking them for 2 yrs I don't think that's likely the issue with the symptoms you're currently having.

I take 2/day, I use the puritans pride brand because it's effective and very affordable with the sales they always have on.

I hope you find the answers and feel better soon!
