I am having my 4th Remicade infusion this Thursday and my Dr just increased me dosage from 5mg/per kilo to 10mg/per kilo and I was wondering if it would take the same amount of time for the infusion or would it be longer because it is more medicine?  Normally it takes about 2 1/2 hours with the 5 mg.  Please tell me it won' take twice as long!  Thanks!  :-)

Hey Cara; I knew someone who was on a higher dose of Remi than I was, and it took the same time to administer it to him. They may watch you a little closer this time to make sure there are no side effects taking place with the higher dosage, but I think when you get the one down at a higher dosage with no problems, things won't take as long. If it makes you feel any better, I've been doing Remi for 3 years now, and I'm on what's called the fast track...in and out in under 2 hours. How's it working for you so far?

It's not really working so great right now. That's why my Dr is upping my dosage. I'll be great a few weeks after it , but then I am right back to flaring again, so my Dr thinks that if he increases my dosage it might last longer between infusions! Thanks!

I'm on 10 and it took longer the first few times until they know you can handle the amount. I'd say the first two times took about 3 hours. Maybe a few minutes more. Now it takes 2 1/2 hours. It just depends on how fast they push the meds through the IV.

Cara; if I remember correctly -- this person also needed some Rowasa enemas to help get them over the hump and into remission. I know it's frustrating to add another med on to the regimen, but thought I'd let you know. It was only for a short period of time but it did the trick.

I have Rowasa enemas also, but I have so much inflammation that I can't keep them in at night. My Dr gave me Cortifoam enemas to help as I can keep the foam in. Ever since I was diagnosed with UC almost 10 years ago, I have never been in remission longer than a few months. It's frustrating! When I start a new ASA medicine, I think it might work because sometimes it works initially, but then stops working. I was hoping Remicade would be my miracle drug! Oh well. I'm still holding out hope witht eh new dosage! MAybe that will do the trick! Thanks!
