:-)  Hello, I am new to the chat room, but I am not new to the u.c. I was diagnosed in 2000 with I guess pretty severe colitis.  I was put on azulfadine and the predizone.  But it wasn't working.  There was other meds that my gastro said were out there, but because of the HIV  I would not be able to take them my infectious doc disagreed anyway, I ended up losing my large intestine.  I have a pouch now for 4 years..  It beats the alternatives.... Why I am here is I want to know if and how much flagyl or cippro or maybe both is someone else on?  And this may sound funny but, what do you use for the sore butt, cuz I am ya still go about 5 + times aday.   I take a probiotic 2 when i am on the antibiotic.   Can anyone give me some advice on a better quality of life.  Oh and as far as the HIV  i am truly blessed They have given me a break 2 years so far on the meds and still undectable. your friend, Wishbones mom

Hi Wishbones Mom, and welcome to HealingWell. You might try and ask this question to the folks on our Ostomy Board, or maybe at www.jpouch.org.... those folks have been through the surgery already; most folks on here are still dealing with the UC end of things. Take care, hope this helps.

Hi, and welcome to Healing Well. You won't find a lot of people with J-pouches here, because they no longer have UC! We do have a few who drop by from time to time. You may find more help at the ostomy board here or at this address:

Welcome, Great news about the HIV being undetectable! For the sore bottom, I suggest toilet paper with aloe or lotion. If it gets real bad might want to dab some vasoline on it. You cn take probiotics all of the time, not just when you are on antibiotics. Best of luck to you! Bellski

I've read of people on the jpouch board using stuff called Calmoseptine when their butts are sore, or any other sort of barrier cream/ointment.
