Any one try accupuncture? Someone we know recommended it and I wondered if any one on here had tried it?

I tried it when first diagnosed. I went once or twice a week for about 6 months. Didn't notice any improvement because of it.

I went once a week for about three months and noticed a slight improvement in my UC.  Going once a week got pretty expensive, so I stopped since I wasn't seeing anything drastic.

One thing I think it helped with was stress because I was so relaxed during the sessions that I usually fell asleep.

I've written about this here before. It takes having the right acupuncturist. Just like anything, there are people who are talented and those who are not. If you find someone knowledgeable and good, you can get great results with acupuncture. I was in remission for about 9 months or so with it some years ago. I went 1 or 2 times a week at first; then less often as I felt better. It was truly amazing and helped stop my symptoms within a few weeks.

The expense and time commitment can be a big deterrent to trying it. But it can really be amazing.
-------
UC for the last ten years
Current Meds: 6MP since 2006, Cortifoam
Past Meds: You name it; I've tried it. (Asacol, Colazol, Pentasa, DiPentum, Rowasa, Canasa, Cortenema, sulfasalazine)
5ASA drugs don't work for me. Canasa seems to make me worse.
Alternative treatments I have had success with: Acupuncture, Hypnotherapy

I go for accupuncture every 2 weeks. I'm not sure if it helps directly with my UC symptoms, but I find it really does help how I feel overall - more relaxed, centered, calm.
- diagnosed ulcerative colitis Feb 2005
- currently 20mg prednisone (tapering down from 80mg), 75 mg 6-MP/mercaptopurine/purinethol (only been taking it for a month so far), asacol/mesalamine 4800mg (4 pills x 3 times day), 1 Canasa 1000mg nightly, VSL#3, multivitamin, calcium, fish oil, sometimes iron pills

Thank you all for your input. I am hoping if this helps with relaxation that it also helps with the moodiness from the prednisone. One can always hope :)
