I just got back from my colonoscopy. First of all, it hurt a lot! The doc said they didn't give me enough sedation. At first, I didn't want the residents in with me, but didn't say anything. Then, I was glad, because 1 held my hand the whole time!

Anyway, I'm pretty close to REMISSION! Yeah! I only have inflammation in 5 cm of my rectum, so I'm gonna take Canasa twice/day until my GI visit in 2 wks. I swear this is due to the proper dose of Asacol. I wanted so bad to be better for my wedding in August and it looks like I will be! As for the stomach pain, the doc said it's not from UC, maybe IBS? I'm gonna keep a log of when, how long and where until my next visit. Maybe that'll go away as I taper the Asacol to a lower dose, as directed by the doc. For now, I'm still on 4 pills 3 times/day. Like Judy says, "don't mess with what's working!"

Great news Tressa!!! Remember that low in the rectum inflammation can cause stomach discomfort...believe it or not...so do stay on the Canasa for sure. Regarding the Asacol....you might try to lower your dosage by ONE pill a week or every two weeks....don't do it any faster.
Seriously, if you push things while your stress level is so high (I don't know any bride who wouldn't be), you'll be more distressed about having symptoms.

But, if you do decide to lower....maybe do so after your wedding...probably best to wait.

You could ask the doctor for a prescription of dicyclomine 10mg (if you need to, you could double it)..but the 10mg would at least give you some relief of stomach and gut spasming...works like a dream for me (for the past 19 years).

Be well,
quincy

Thanks Heather. I'll ask when I see her about the dicyclomine. I definately don't want to mess this up. I don't plan to reduce the Asacol until her go- ahead.

That's awesome Tressa!  Congrats!

My doc has told me I'm in a lot of pain during my colonoscopy too (although he gives me ALOT of sedative so I don't remember a thing). He said its likely from IBS as my last test also showed my colon as pretty calmed down.  Levsin seems to help me a bit with the IBS.
