Hey everybody.
I just found this forum when I was looking for answers to some of my UC questions. Maybe some of you can help me.

I have been living with UC for 3 years. I had a terrible initial incident, then had a lengthy remission. I have recently had small relapses that last about 2-3 weeks each.

During my relapses, I notice that I develop terrible body acne. Is this common with anyone else? I shower daily, use a medicated body wash, and am generally a healthy guy. I typically get outbreaks on my torso (both sides, chest, and belly, and some on my back).

The other thing I wanted to know is how many people have gone off of meds? I have been unmedicated for about a year and a half. I have moved since my original diagnosis and have yet to find a doctor in my area. How long have you gone without a doctor or without meds?

There are times during a flare when my skin gets very oily and I notice more pimples.  It's probably not acne, but if there's a connection, yes, I sometimes notice skin problems.  (Skin problems I didn't have when I was a teenager, say.)
It's been six years or so since diagnosis, and early on I didn't comply with my meds very well.  I was often off my meds.  (But I smoked then, and I think it had an effect.)  In hindsight, I probably should have been more compliant.
I often avoid my doctor, but I've always had one.  You never know when you'll need one.

Welcome! You'll read that most UCers have different symptoms and treatments. It can be a very personalized disease i guess. I personally wouldn't have ever considered going off meds b/c my first flare scared the **** out me. hehe. It was horrible then I was under control until I took amoxicillen then had an even worse flare. I really didn't experiment with many maintenace drugs just asacol and imuran which I took for over 2 years together and never felt they made a bit of difference with my body. Then my flares started becoming immune to my prescriptions and so I got off all of them and actually improved. Strange... But from the initial onset I have gradually been eating healthier and healthier and that would be my suggestion to you. Also go get things checked out by a Dr. b/c you UC seems to not be as severe as mine was from the start and you want it to improve and not get worse and worse and worse. Goodluck partner...
