WOW.....did the doc do a urine culture to find this out? Scary stuff to be sure. I just found this info on it....good reading for anyone who's interested in it.
The title is interesting..
Didn't realise it can be up there in the superbug category. Makes sense if there haven't been any cultures done. I hope the cipro will deal with it quicker and that you'll start to feel better soon.
Could it also be part of the vaginal infection? That's probably how it migrated as a uti. We (women) have too many things in close proximity...have one problem and it all wants to get into the act..sigh. I also believe that once hormones get out of whack, it opens us up for a much lowered immune system regarding infections.
I found this quote from Wikipedia
"Research conducted at King's College, London has implicated molecular mimicry between HLA-B27 and two molecules in Klebsiella microbes as the cause of ankylosing spondylitis. "
More interesting is that there's a connection between AS and UC.... I don't totally understand all of the bio information....but it's good to know that cultures for anything persistent is definitely the way to go rather than using meds that can exacerbate the situation.
WOW again!!! I'm glad you have a diagnosis. Please keep us updated as to how you're doing. Improvement will be an awesome thing.
Can you take probiotics to help keep your colon from being too affected from the Cipro?
*Heather*Status: mini flare Dec 28... tapered to every 4th night
