College Students

Hey there. I'll be a senior in college in the fall so I know what you're going through. I was diagnosed after my freshman year of HS and I had to give up basketball because of it too. I've been in remission on and off since being on remicade for a few years now. I look forward to talking to you!

I'm starting my 2nd year of college this fall (hopefully). My UC symptoms began during the last month of senior year and I was officially diagnosed a couple weeks before beginning college.

Hey J-pain, sorry to hear you had to give up college basketball.. i'm going into my fourth year (so that would make me a senior in the U.S) and i play university hockey.  I am flaring now, and whenever i flare i contemplate giving it up, but it's my last year, and I pray that I will be able to keep everything up... I've had 4 flareups in the past year, and luckily, only one of them semi-affected my season for 2 weeks (after christmas holidays and starting up again in january)... i just pray that my flareups keep coming in the off-season!

 

So I decided I might give this all a try. I'm 22 and was diagnosed at 15. I graduated from college last year and just got done teaching my first year of high school math. I know what it's like to give up a sport you love. I had to give up synchronized swimming. I have been hospitalized three times, had a blood transfusion this past year and I get flare ups all the time and it really helps that i have a lot of great friends but It would be nice to discuss it with those who know what its like day in and day out.

I'm 19 and will be a sophmore this year in college. I had issues with my digestive tract before but my family has a history of it and I never wanted to get it checked because I was afraid I would have cancer. I finally had my UC diagnosed back in July and have been trying out different things to make it better ever since. I'm currently trying a diet as limiting in everything as possible and my doctors are hesitant to put me on anything stronger than Asacol and Prednisone which I am currently tapering off of. I'm just really worried about having to share a dorm with someone this time around. It was bad enough last year when the symptoms were at a minimum but now I don't think I will make it without pissing someone off. Its really really embarrassing to have to run to the bathroom first thing in the morning only to find 3 other girls already there brushing their teeth and doing their hair. I want to get an apartment but my contract for the dorm already went through a couple months back and I would be losing a lot of money to back out now. Anyone else had difficulties dealing with roommates, housing, etc? I wish I could hold it until I can make it to another bathroom, but I can't and its impossible to get around having to daily offend my suitemates.
