I missed a dose last night and my doctor said you have to use canasa for at least a week before you get any positive reaction from it. I started on Monday so I am almost to a week. Do you think missing the one day is a big deal and means I need another week straight before I see results?
UC diagnosed January 05

Past Meds: Azasan (Imuran) - piercing chest pains after six days so tried different brand aka Azathioprine - morning nausea /didn't really help after more than 6 months, canasa (tried but got worse at the time - connected or not laying off for now), dicyclomine (still flared), Remicade - 7 treatments (stopping because no dramatic changes), allergy shots (03-07)
Current meds: Asacol 2 - 3x, Aciphex (acid reflux), prednisone boo 25 mg now tapering, multivitamin, caltrate 2x a day. probiotic (florasmart), astelin (nasal spray as needed for allergies), fosamax (bone density), levbid

No, I don't think you need a whole extra week to see a difference. Have you noticed a difference? I know people say it takes time. For me, i think it works really quick. I don't know. Keep trying to take it and hopefully it wil help soon.

Well I have been using it while I taper prednisone so its hard to tell. When I first started using it I was having stools in the morning that were just grainy like dirt almost but I kept having to go - don't know if its me getting used to the medicine down there.

You should use them nightly until you're completely off the pred, and continue for at least another week until you start to taper.
Don't sweat it if you miss at night, you can use it in the morning after your bm.

Canasa is the easiest and most forgiving of all the 5-ASA's. Missing a dose shouldn't cause any harm as long as you remember to take it when you remember. Canasa can even be used during the day where you are active unlike the enemas in which you have to lie still for at least 30 minutes.
