hows this for a visual...

this morning about 5.20am, i move the tiniest of inches in bed to get a bit more comfortable than my uncomfortable position.
bam... have to get up and run to the toilet.
grab my sweatshirt, throw it on and run to the can.
turn on my little space heater cuz its winter and freezing here in my bathroom.  (i swear there are icicles.. really)

so im sitting there rocking back in forth and moaning cuz it hurts and what happens?
my nose starts bleeding.  what?
yea, my nose bleeds profusely, i guess maybe from the pushing or what not. who knows.
so i grab a sheet of tp and roll it up and stuff it in my nostril with half it sticking out.

then i proceed to continue pooping.  if thats what you call blood squirting outta my bum.
then i get that horrible nauseous feeling and reach over and grab one of my handy plastic grocery bags that i have stuffed in the corner just for moments like this.
then i start puking.  (horribly loud, my husband tells me later)
and the pain in my gut gets even worse and im pushing and pushing while moaning, groaning and i guess you could say, grunting.
then the tp shoots outta my nose with some of the blood and i have to try and reach some more tp, roll it up and shove it back in my nostril so blood doesnt get everywhere (with one hand).
oh and im still puking, with one hand holding the bag.  have my head half in so i dont project it all over the bathroom.
and the poos, being a little more formed at this point are excrutiating and i swear they have corners and sharp edges (even tho they LOOK small and squishy.)

so here i am,  puking in a bag, crapping in the can, and tp stuffed in my nose and tears streaming down my face while sounding like im having a baby.

just thought i would share my picture of misery in the hopes of giving you all a chuckle!

(now that its over, i can laugh about it)

Oh my goodness - I don't think it gets much worse than that! I'm so sorry. I hope it's just a fluke and you feel better soon.

Wow, what a morning for you! That is absolutely horrible. I can honestly say that I have never threw up while going to the bathroom though I have felt extremely nauseas. Hopefully it won't be like that tomorrow morning for you!

Oh no Kazy I hope it's something as simple as a bug that's gone already! I've been there without the bloody nose but puking in a bucket (I keep one for that very reason too) and going at the same time.

well, its kinda normal except for the nose bleed. its not a bug cuz its a pretty regular thing.
i have the bags in the bathroom cuz when the pain is really bad i involuntarily puke.

its usually when the poos are a bit more formed and it really hurts coming out. the last like 6 inches or somehting is the real killer.

so it might be a sign of getting better since i have more formed bms, but then its bad cuz its excrutiating.
like a win-lose situation.

thanks for the hugs n wishes!

Kazygirl, you just gave my bad morning some welcome perspective. I thought I had it bad waking up at 4:30 and sitting on the toilet for 25 minutes (then two more times all before breakfast). I'm so crampy and bloated that just lifting up my leg to put moisturizer on it causes cramping and diarrhea. But now that I've heard about your morning, I'm feeling a little more grateful. So thanks for sharing. ;-)

are you on any rectal meds? Maybe the rowasa that I hear other's talk about or the foams. Just to help heal the end so it's not so painful?

yeah, cortifoam or colifoam. dont remember the spelling, although it is just in the other room.
the pain is worse right on the lower left side at the curve and the sigmoid colon (i think) and then the rectum.
rectum is not as bad as the other part. so maybe it is a more than 6 inches.
i havent been very good with keeping up with the foam as i go so much at night it wouldnt be in there very long.
and the thought of stickin anything up my bum gives me the shivers.
ouch.
but, after this morning, im thinking i should get over it and just do it regardless of how long it gets to stay in there.

Oh my gosh, that sounds horrible, kazygirl!
It would definitely be a good idea to use the cortifoam every night. At least it's better then a liquid enema!

The foam really helped me when I had similar issues earlier this year. I would use it after one of those PAINFUL bathroom trips. It felt really soothing. Then I'd go lay on the couch for 20-30 minutes to make sure it stayed in at least that long.

I have little waste baskets next to all of my toilets - they come in handy when I have to vomit while on the potty.

What a miserable morning for you. I'd really consider having a sick day after that!

krazygirl - I know you have a lot more experience and worse condition than I do but here is my take. I started with the suppositories and then doc put me on Colazal and changed me to the foam.  That made the difference in the "hurting" down below.  I am considered mild to moderate left-sided - not up very far.  Seems every day or so I have a bad day but mostly it is getting better.

Believe me at 68 and obese - it is extremely difficult to USE the rectal medication but has made the big difference.  If you can keep it in only 20 or 30 minutes.  I found not all comes out anyway like the suppositories even if you go pretty quickly - guess it sticks to the colon.

By the way, I have done it all same as you except for nose bleed.  It is the cramping without results that is the worse and mine seems so much better.

Hope you are doing better.

I had that experience three days this past week!

It's the worst. =/
21 years old

Diagnosed with moderate/severe UC June 2007

Taking Lialda 3x a day, and just started taking Entocort(3 pills/day) on 5/29/08. Started to taper off on the steroid, but, that proved to be bad..

Severely anemic, was taking 3 65mg iron tablets a day, now just down to 1 because my hemoglobin levels are almost normal, and I cannot stand the stomach aches I get from all that iron. However, I was down to just 1 Entocort a few days ago and started to have a flare, so, I might have ruined my levels again. =/

Kazygirl, I'm sorry to hear your story. I wish you are feeling better now.

One day in early February I had a bad flare and I got up mid night for diarrhea. My blood pressure dropped drastically after the BM. I lost consciousness after I had washed and wiped my hands. My husband heard a loud noise in his sleep but he managed to sleep for another hour before he found me missing and was instead sitting on the floor in the washroom.
When he woke me up I walked back to my bed and found it's an hour since I got up for the BM. He sent me to ER the next morning. I was found dehydrated, given I.V. and then sent home.
A couple of days later, I got up again mid night for diarrhea. This time my husband followed me to the washroom. I lost consciousness again after the BM. He said I looked at him with my eyes widely open but would not speak. He shook me and I woke up. I was sent to ER again.
From then on, my husband demands me to wake him up if I need to go mid night. Fortunately, I get better and better since then and don't have the midnight runs any more. tongue

Yikes!  This is a picture of misery.

What I'm most impressed with is that you haven't let this frickin' disease get you down and it puts some perspective on what misery can be.

Feel well, kazygirl

any word on why that is happening?

not really, but hey, its better than sitting in bed wallowing in misery. i tried that last time and it gets old. hehe.

and cheers to all the good wishes!
i used the colifoam last night and didnt go once in the night.
what an idiot i am for procrastinating on it.
just one night of relief and im a believer.

So happy you tried the foam and it helped you!  Some of us are OLD and stubborn (me) and some are young and stubborn - I do understand.  I resisted the rectal medications also last year and not proud of it.

Good luck - I found that I still have a few bad days but more and more good days!  Don't give up!

kazygirl, the ER doctor said I lost consciousness because I was traumatized by the cramps during the BM. It was February and cold. I jumped out from my bed for the washroom half-asleep. And my blood pressure dropped drastically because my bowel was emptied suddenly. I was given I.V. for a couple of hours in the ER and was sent home after bloodwork and x-ray on my chest.
How I wish all of us here can get well soon.
