I would love to be off prednisone soon and get rid of some of these side effects, but I'm thinking I probably have to go the opposite way and increase it. I've been tapering down slowly from high doses (including intravenous steroids when I was in the hospital for heavy bleeding). When I was at 20mg prednisone I saw a bit of blood one day, which was the day I was scheduled to drop to 15. I didn't drop to the next level, instead I stayed on 20 for an additional week and didn't see any blood (although I realize there could have been some but some bathrooms have poor lighting). I finally did drop down to 15mg friday morning, only a few days ago. I saw a little blood on the paper last night and more in the toilet this morning. My movements are loose (but not liquid) and somewhat urgent. Lots of gas. Sometimes yellow (bile?) on the paper. Sometimes asacol pills or pieces of them visible in toilet. I'll consult my doctor but she is often slow to respond so I'm interested in your opinions too. Should I go back up from 15mg? How high? I wasn't so good at 20mg so I'm thinking I'd have to go up to 25 or 30mg? Oh I could use a hug this morning but I'm off to work instead...

P.S. I've only been on the 6mp about 2 months, I don't think its possible benefits have kicked in yet.

I am on my first experience of azathioprine, trying to come off pred for the second time (the first time I tried to come off of it, I think aspirin made me flare, but that could just be wishful thinking).

I would call your GI see if you can go back up to 40mg for a couple of weeks to get the flare under control and then taper by 5mg or 2.5mg of or something until you get down to 20mg and then maybe do 2.5 every two weeks? I only say this b/c of some posts I have read that seemed to have worked for some ppl doing a very slow taper. I think it must be better for us to do slow tapers than to have to keep on going back up to 40mg? But that is my own theory and not based on anything....as my sister keeps telling me, there is no MD after my name.
Beth, 32 ~ hoping to taper pred successfully, wish me luck!

I haven't toyed with pred in a long time. I wish you luck ....

Here's the best hug I can provide at this time - <( )> (><) <( )> - the middle is supposed to be the hug stage is what I was told once. . . .I thought it was a cute way to share an electronic hug with someone who needs one.

You would be better running it by your doctor to see what she feels, I adjust Pred myself but i've been off and on it for 16 years now and know what works for me.You should see your doctor.
feel good soon
