UC usually comes with blood and diarrhea and mucous. But nothing with UC is "classic" or "textbook". LIke my GI says "every flare is its own set of symptoms". What happens with one flare doesn't always act the same way the next flare occurs. And I reach different points of healing in my flares. .. sometimes theres just diarrhea, with some mucous...sometimes just blood...sometimes just mucous....sometimes just the mouth sores, and diarrhea...sometimes it all occurs, the blood mucous, diarrhea, body aches, chills, cramping, pain, nausea, etc etc. So, to answer your question, I guess the answer is no, you don't always get blood and diarrhea with a UC flare....best way to know if you have UC is to have the colonoscopy with biopsys. Good luck!!
