I notice that only when I'm in a pre-flair or starting to heal from a flair right after I have a BM I get some spasms in my colon and/or sphincter which last for an hour or two then go away..Is there anything to help with these and what's causing it?

Hi...dicyclomine is amazing for me....the brand name is Bentylol in Canada, Bentyl in the US. I started with 10mg (which I would suggest because you can double it if necessary)..but have graduated to the 20mg in the last 5 years.

It will relax your eyesignt a bit...

Are you still using the rectal meds? (you could make a signature with the meds you're on and where in the colon your UC is just so that one doesn't keep asking the same questions).

I hate those spasms, but they truly tell me I'm flaring.

*Heather*Status: mini flare Dec 28... tapered to every 4th night
~diagnosed January 1989 UC (proctosigmoiditis)
~5ASA: Asacol (6 daily) + Salofalk enemas (increase for flares tapered to maintenance)
~Bentylol (dicyclomine) 20mg as needed
~Probiotic 3(Natural Factors Protec) bedtime + 1 (Primadophilus Reuteri) occasionally
~multi-digestive enzymes as needed ....zymactive 3 - 5x daily
~Ranitidine,Pariet (reflux) Effexor XR 75mg;  Pulmicort/Airomir (asthma)
~URSO for PSC (or PBC) 500mg X 2 daily (LFTs back to NORMAL!!)
My doc's logic.. "TREAT (FROM)BOTH ENDS"  worth it !!!

It might be a hemorrhoid, especially after a flare

The weird thing is today after my a.m. BM the spasms lasted all day (never had that before) but today there was no blood in my stool though :-) . I'm hoping (and praying) that I might have also picked up a little stomach bug that's going around in addition to a mini flair.
