it burns so bad. I did have a fissure and it stopped bleeding for a couple of days (I thought I was out of the woods) now again it's bleeding. It's on one side it seems like. I'm in so much pain. I'm taking hydrocortizone ointment but that's not even touching on the pain. I'm on sulfasalazine what else can I take for the pain? Tylenol? I will try rectal meds, Canasa, tonight. I can't even sit. It's right on the inside. My hole looks totally normal.
How do I know if it's acid it or not?
If it's not a fissure what else could it be?
Colonoscopy & Endoscopy 7/27, Left sided colitis and near cecum (mild)
8/1/08 on sulfasalazine 2 2x's a day. Working with a naturalpath for high estrogen, low dopamine, immune stuck in overdrive, yeast, bacteria and body not detoxing. Comprehensive metabolical profile test showed this along with DNA testing and geno profile. "Footsteps" is my  life, many days I couldn't walk...

You could try to use lidocaine ointment or suppositories and see if that helps. I don't know if you can use them without a prescription.

I sure hope you get relief...I can't imagine being in as much pain as you're saying you are.

burns or hurts? If it hurts, I got one word for you- abscess. If it burns... ummm, no clue. I've had an abscess before & I was in so much pain that I basically had to go to bed & just sleep! I thought it was an internal hemmorhoid. Took a million sitz baths, cried, tried to sleep. Finally it burst & turned into a fistula. Psyched about that.... eyes   But give your doc a call if it's really horrible- if it is an abscess, they'll drain it for you in the office, with painkillers! good luck!
diagnosed with UC '02
Asacol- 8 tabs/day
Remicade-10mgs/kg- since 4/07
Imuran- 150mgs/day

If it's burning try using calmoseptine.  You can find in the types of drug stores that sell ostomy supplies.  If it's pain you should have it checked.

I've posted my abscess story before so I won't bore anyone with the details again.  Bottom line, Eva Lou is right about pain vs. burning but I'll add something else.  If you run a fever, it could also be a sign that there's an abscess.  That's what finally sent me to the hospital.  Even an experienced gastro doc sometimes can't tell in the office if it's an abscess because the swelling and redness can duplicate the symptoms of a fissure.  I needed an MRI for them to find my abscess.  Go back to your doctor if your symptoms aren't improving.  An abscess that bursts on its own can cause a fistula (like Eva Lou said) or can get into your bloodstream and give you a potentially deadly infection.

My pain was so bad I couldn't stand under my own power.  It hurt worse than breaking my arm, tearing my knee, and popping my hamstring (done all three).  If the pain is incapacitating and constant, and not reacting to cortisone suppositories and epsom baths, it's probably not a fissure.

Keep us updated and fell better.
