My husband currently has decent insurance through his work for us. I am about to start Remicade and I am pretty sure everything is covered except I pay an office copay when I get it. His work has now decided to switch insurance companies in order to save money. My husband thinks it is appropriate to send a letter to the district manager to advocate for a good health care program. It is a fairly small company with several people with chronic problems one with cancer ect. Do you all feel this is appropriate and do you have any ideas as what to include? I would hate to start Remicade and then have to quit it.

Hi- I'm going thru the same thing, just switched insurance companies & am making a bunch of phone calls daily to ensure my remicade is still covered. I would think any good-sized insurance company would cover remicade, at some level. Does he know what insurance company they plan to switch too? If so, you could always call them & expalin that you are about to become a member, & ask them what their remicade coverage entails. I don't know about writing to the district manager- you could, but it probably wouldn't make any difference when they choose an insurer. Also, if you are currently getting remicade, most insurers will allow you to remain on it, so I would start the drug as soon as you can, before the switch occurs.

diagnosed with UC '02
Asacol- 8 tabs/day
Remicade-10mgs/kg- since 4/07
Imuran- 150mgs/day
Fiber supplement
