I ate rye bread last night for the first time since I developed UC, and a few hours later I had some of the worst gas I've ever had in my life.  Horribly painful like a balloon was blown up inside of me.  Could rye be the culprit or do I need to look at what else I ate?  What does it do to you??

Rye doesn't agree with me either. Wheat bread or any grained bread is not good either. I stick to either white bread or sour dough.

I eat rye bread every morning....but I don't have the dark rye or whole grain rye..etc. I purchase it from a local bakery.

They're not all equal. You might have to go through trial and error.

You can look into rice bread...

This was the light-colored Pepperidge Farm brand that comes in a bag (not fresh). I don't tolerate those kinds of breads very well, so maybe I just have to try it fresh from a bakery.

At least you can ask them what ingredients they use.

Marble rye seems to be OK for me....

Hope you find a bread you like...oh, do try the rice bread..but it's best toasted. I ate it for 2 years with breakfasts..but got so expensive and I eventually looked for something else.

What exactly are the ingredients on the bread you got?  Just curious.

Q - Don't know the ingredients b/c it was at my parents' house. I did look at the label beforehand and there was no sugar (which is what I was avoiding). Every morning I toast some of that Tuscan bread from La Brea - that's the fresh bread that's available in my supermarket. Maybe I should try their rye bread, too.

I've never heard of rice bread, and it sounds like something that would be good for me. Since I'm avoiding sugars, its not ideal to be eating the kind of white breads that I've been eating. White bread just turns into sugar after you eat it. Do you happen to know the name of the company who makes rice bread? I don't recall seeing it at the store, but I haven't really looked.
