Is it ok to use Cortifoam if I have a c-scope in a couple days?

I forgot to ask my doctor, so I thought I'd ask here before I bother the on-call doctor by calling on the weekend.

I have a c-scope on Monday. I've been tapering my cortifoam use to every other night but I'm much worse on the days after I don't use it. (So tapering off is probably not the best idea.)

I'm going to use it tonight (Friday) because I'm having a little blood and the Cortifoam really helps with that. But Sat and Sun night, I'm a little concerned about whether that's a good idea in case it effects the scope at all.

I know this might sound insane, but part of me thinks it's better to have a couple days without it so that my doctor can really see where the inflammation is... the part that starts bleeding as soon as a I skip a night of Cortifoam.

What do you think?

Thanks!

Current Meds: 6MP since 2006, Cortifoam
Past Meds: You name it; I've tried it. (Asacol, Colazol, Pentasa, DiPentum, Rowasa, Canasa, Cortenema, sulfasalazine)
5ASA drugs don't work for me. Canasa seems to make me worse.
Alternative treatments I have had success with: Acupuncture, Hypnotherapy

You should not discontinue any of your UC meds for a c-scope unless you specifically told to by your doctor.  Cortifoam should not interfere with your procedure.

Sue is correct. I know what you mean about wanting the doc to see where the bleeding is coming from. However, it is better to continue with your pattern of tapering especially with any type of steroid. It is going to be rough to do the prep while flaring a bit as it is. I will be honest, there was a time when I was coming out of a flare while tapering an enema and had to have a cscope. After doing the prep and running to the bathroom 20 gazillion times, the last thing I wanted to do was have something else in there :) So I didn't do an enema that night but I told my GI but he didn't seem to mind. But that wasn't a steroid enema I was using but Rowasa. Good luck on your scope and especially your prep!

Thanks, Sue and Sherry! I appreciate the advice. I already had that thought of "there is no way I'm going to want to do this on Sunday night"!

I'm with Suebear on this topic. Mesalamine tints yellow, but the gastros (in my experience) don't say to stop 5-ASA oral meds in advance of c-scope. As long as doctor knows what med you're on, they know what to look for in terms of continuing inflammation, it seems. Good luck with your prep & procedure! / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC; currently on 3 Colazal daily for maintenance of remission)

unless your doc tells you to stop then don't! I've never been told to change my meds before procedures.

good luck
