I was recently hit hard and my teeth caused a slit inside my cheek. Boy, did it bleed a lot. blood all over my face clothes and shoes. A couple of hours later my cheek was swollen/inflamed, which is the body's natural defense when you are wounded. The swelling lasted for about a week while the cut was slowly healing.
I figured the healing process was similar to my colon since it is a moist surface. I also figured the cut would take longer to heal than a cut say on my hand. It did look nasty while healing. Very white and gross looking, but by a week and a half the cut had healed completely and all that is left is a tiny scar that is barely noticeable. Wow i am amazed.
My colon hasn't bled for a month or two now so I am hoping the wounds inside there are healed...

The mouth has the amazing ability to heal itself rather quickly under unfavorable conditions. I believe our colons are the same way but with one exception. Your mouth injury was caused by trauma, our colon "injuries" are caused by our immune system. Our immune system is constantly attacking our colons, so it would be equal to having your mouth hit and cut repeatedly over and over again. Tell ya what though, those mouth injuries can be quite painful though! It makes it super tough to eat that's for sure.
