I just thought that I would share my good news. I had a colonscopy in June because I was having mucus & urgencies. My GI said that everything looked good. That on a scale of 1-3. 1 being mild & 3 severe that I was one. I realize now that the problem was from taking Levaquin for an ear infection.
Since June, I had been doing real good. Only having One BM a day & no urgencies or mucus or blood. I have lots of energy. I also am eating anything I want. corn on the cob, fresh raw vegetables & fruit, and CHOCOLATE. :) I have been eating a trail mix that I mix together for snack which includes mixed nut, raisins, & M & M"s. Dairy still gives me a little mucus.
3 years ago, I went through a flare that last 4 months with 17 Bm's a day & for that last 2 1/2 years not eating what I want & not feeling good. Things finally correctly itself & I am feel good. So those of you that are having a rough time, hold on things can improve.
I feel really blessed & I am very grateful.

And the cautionary side of this tale is to be aware of the havoc antibiotics can wreak on your gut. It's best to avoid them whenever possible, but be sure to rebuild good gut ecology with probiotic supplementation after a course of antibiotics. And tell your prescribing doc you have UC... some antibiotics are harder on the gut than others.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999.

Maintenance dose sulfasalazine.
Probiotics, l-glutamine and fish oil caps. George's aloe vera juice. Oregano oil antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal. Long-term remission with only minor blips.

Thanks for posting! It's always helpful, I think, to hear of people who are doing well and going about their lives even with this DD.

Basically I ate what I wanted to all kinds of meat (beef, pork, chicken not much fish) any vegetables. basically I don't much dairy. I eat pizza, spicy foods. Anything I want to eat I eat. sugar doesn't bother me either. I can eat ice cream every now & then but I do get gas & some mucus from it.For breakfast, I have been eating a lot of waffles with fresh strawberries & blueberries & whipped cream. For lunch, I can eat salads or sandwiches. sorry not much help on the diet. I have just been blessed to be able to eat what I want.
