Any suggestions on dealing with all the crappy emotions of dealing with this??  Meds haven't been successful this round, I refuse to get on prednisone, and work becomes very difficult since I am on the road a ton.  Any advice?

Just curious if you've tried prednisone before? Totally personal choice - I know it can be nasty, and I've dealt with my share of side effects, but it has been a lifesaver to me. Stress management with this disease can be so hard, too. I try all the usuals - going for walks by myself, reading, deep breathing, etc. If it gets to be too much, counseling and anti-depressants are always options.
*Diagnosed pancolitis 10/07 (6 months pregnant w/ 2nd baby)
*Currently in remission
*Tapering prednisone - at 20 mg
*Lialda (3 x a day)
*Canasa
*Prilosec
*Calcium, multivitamin, Metamucil, iron, fish oil, probiotics

Thank you for the response.  I have not tried prednisone but watched what it did to my brother so that's not a road i'd like to take.  I like all your ideas which i try but my mind seems to go straight back to work stresses/life stresses.  I sell antidepressants for a living and as crazy as it sounds I don't believe in them.  Noticed you are pregnant-my husband and I are thinking of trying next year.  I worry about passing this along to my child.  Have any resources with information on this?  Also, how long were you in remission before your pregnancy?

I was actually diagnosed when I was 6 months pregnant. Prednisone brought me into remission pretty quickly, but then I had a really bad flare about 8 weeks postpartum. Ended up in the hospital for over two weeks with a 2 year old and a new baby at home! There have been tons of posts about pregnancy and colitis - just put "colitis pregnancy" in the search bar and you'll find great info. I do know what you mean - it sometimes makes me sick to my stomach just thinking about the possibility of either of my girls ever getting this disease, but I try not to stress over it. As someone on the board recently said, hopefully there will be a cure by the time our kids have to deal with it!

Wow, that's a lot to go through right after having a baby.  I will look into the searches.  I get extremely worried because I have five family members on my mother's side with Crohn's or UC.  However, I was telling my husband the same thing you said about finding a cure by the time our children grow up.  Few more questions, did you gain wt on prednisone?  Someone was telling me about UC/Crohns recovery centers that you stay in for about a month.  Ever heard of anything like that?

I don't blame you for worrying, but try not to worry too much. I definitely wouldn't change my decision to have had either of my girls, even with the chance that they may develop UC. Haven't heard of that type of recovery center, but I'm still pretty newly diagnosed. That's an interesting concept, but a long time to be away from home. Although, it's probably a better setting than a hospital. I did not gain weight on the pred. - actually lost because my flare was so bad. I did get the moonface, but that was after being on really high IV doses of steroids in the hospital, and on high doses of pred. for a long time. I'm on pred. again now (started at 60mg, now down to 20mg), and have had no side effects this time around.

Thxs for all the info.  Yeah, worrying seems to be my thing lately.  It's nice to hear prednisone wasn't too bad, I have the script waiting to be filled.  Most likely will give a few other things a try first until I get completely exhausted.  Think I'm heading to sleep now since I have to work early tomorrow.  The chatting really helped me feel better.  Thank you so much.
