I am totally getting irritated at what is going on. I must have an intolerance to eggs or something, as I ate two scrambled a few hours ago and wham, huge amounts of gas, very little poop, and what I did wipe off my rear smelled yucky. Is that probably the egg smell? I'm beginning to wonder if I cannot tolerate eggs, and other things also. I have been using Egg Beaters also and wonder if that occurs with them?

And again I am feeling the jabbing gas pains in my left side. This does not occur with every food, just certain foods. So it has to be something I'm eating, that is the last thing I ate other than a bowl of bran flakes with soy milk a little bit ago. I had normal bm's today earlier, twice, and do not need to go now, but I feel gas in my rectal area also. But yesterday for the first time my stools floated partially atop the water. I have never had that happen ever. I know Celiac Disease can cause that which is a problem with consuming wheat gluten.

The stinging sensations are felt in the flank area of my back also, I am using my Canasa 1000mg suppositories every night now and take my Asacol as prescribed. But I don't like the way the small part of the middle of my back feels. You would not feel discomfort in the back would you with anything serious, that is worse than UC? I did a Over the Counter stool test to check for hidden blood back starting on July 21st and it showed normal.

I followed directions exactly. It has been 3 1/2 weeks since I did that test, I don't think I could develop anything like colon cancer in just 3 weeks. This seems like I am trying to flare but like it is not coming on full force. I am trying to remember if my rectal area felt this way with my past flares many years ago. It has been a long time. I am taking two probiotics daily. Should I take more or should I even ask my gastroenterologist if I should take them?

This feels like major gas. It drives me crazy.

I had to give up bran flakes even before I was diagnosed with UC. They cause me horrible cramping and gas. Remember, it takes a while for the food to make it from your mouth to your colon, so it usually isn't the most recent food you ate.

I always loved bran flakes. cry

Thanks Judilyn. This past month has been really stressful for me with the female issues I have had also. It is hard sometimes to even tell where things are coming from.

I have had problems with eggs for about 10 years. I cannot tolerate scrambled eggs at all. (My theory is that there is too much air whipped into them - - its just a theory.) I have recently had good luck eating the cage-free, vegetarian-fed, Omega 3 eggs. Pricey but now widely available. The only trick is that I have to fry it hard (no runny yolk) and I can only eat one but I stay symptom-free. I get a milder version of symptoms when I eat Egg Beaters but if I know I'll be home for a few hours, sometimes I eat them anyway. Good luck.
Dx UC 1979 at age 14 - (I know, some kind of record)
Was Mildly Chronic (flares every couple of years) until last 2 years now Chronically Acute
Can only get about a month symptom free between flares now
Asacol, Canasa, Rowasa, Cortifoam (on Sulfasalazine for 28 years previously also Pred)
GI Doc recently told me I have "lead pipe syndrome" which is advanced scarring of colon
No surgery - multiple colonoscopies reveal uc "from rectum to appendix"

Don't worry too much about the backaches. Both UC and stress seem to cause them for me all the time. I swear I would go bananas without my heating pad.

i'd say its the bran flakes.
im a bit weird actually with eggs.. if im not flaring, they go right thru me! whew-hoo look out.
but when im flaring, im fine with them. pretty weird.

but eggs have been known (at least in my little world/reality) to go right thru people, cause gas, and smelly issues.
try going a week without them and see how you go.
but stay on the cereal and see if the symptoms stop or continue.
then the next week, maybe stop the cereal and see if the symptoms stop or continue.

oh yeah.... when i used to have soy milk, it caused me mad problems and i stopped having it right away.
could be that.
so hard to tell with food.
steph - 32 - female - UC since 2000
currently flaring again..  grrr! (triggered by stress - grrr)
mesalazine granules 3g x1 a day (much nicer than a million tablets a day)
enteric coated fish oil -omega 3 (so they get all the way to my colon)
vitamin D3 x1 a day
prednisolone 25mg x1 a day (ick ick and did i say ick?)
tumeric capsules x3 a day
