LOL, I didn't even realize you read it that way Q...I was wondering why you were asking where NOTAR was from after I read his post and he stated BC, that's why in my response I also posted my age and that I was F.

You're too funny, thanks, I needed that little chuckle after some of the dealings from the weekend.

Yeah..I can relate to having weekend crapola..and needing the laugh..at least laughing at myself is guaranteed. sheesh.

NOTAR...healthy is pretty subjective since many of us have a host of other stuff going on health-wise at the same time...

Regarding others with UC...I've met one who or two (who were miraculously cured by whatever means..or had it "once"...???),I have a very good friend who has fistulising Crohn's and I believe my mom had UC (she smoked so it's possible symptoms could have been masked somewht). I'm from family stock (both sides) with many autoimmune disease/disorders.

I’m in Toronto (Scarborough) Ontario. I have UC and I’m the only one in our family with IBD. My wife works in a small office with only 2 full time employees, her and the secretary. The secretary is married to a guy with Crohn's. Other than at my GI’s office and the hospital, he is the only person I ever met with IBD.
Paul
Diagnosed in 2000 at age 43 with UC extending half way across transverse colon.
Bad reaction to Asacol, Pentasa and Dipentum - can’t take any more 5ASAs.
Prednisone - worked well for 1 month, then side effects became unbearable.
6-MP - blood tests showed not metabolizing properly.
Corticosteroid enema, Flagyl, Ciprofloxin, VSL#3, Adacolumn Apheresis – no effect
Methotrexate with Remicade - 7 infusions with no improvement
Folic Acid and B12 injections.
Abatacept trial - no effect

I am from 1000 Islands, Ontario.

I don't know anybody with IBD, I am the only one. My daughter may have severe lactose/dairy allergy/ wheat intolerance, to be tested in Sep (originally thought IBD, but GI doesn't think so).

Dx:  UC Proctitis 2006
Meds:  None so far. Garlic works to ease flares. My GI laughed when I told him and said it was just coincidence.
Started Meds:  Apr 9 08 500mg 5ASA (salofalk) to ease flare, tapering, stopped.
Diet:  Regular fresh garlic, Biobest yogurt daily, Omega 3 supplements, very limited junk food, carbs and processed food, low fat diet.  Lots of fresh fruit and veggies (limited potatoes).
 Added: tumeric and probiotics.

I am from BC too. Vancouver to be exact.

I know 3 other people from my high school that have IBD. Two have Crohns and one UC.

I have had UC for 17 years. I am 34 and male.

There is some family history on my Mom's side. A cousin I've never met has/had UC and recently had his colon removed, a great Aunt got UC late in her life and another Aunt with diverticulitis. I really hope I didn't pass this on to my daughter.

I am 51 male in Ottawa, originally from PEI. My brother has duodenal inflammation, nobody else in my family has a UC-type problem.

21 years of UC which started after quitting smoking. In and out of flares which are usually triggered by antibiotics. Latest issue is endless diarrhea without blood or mucous.

  • 3 500mg Pentasa a day
  • Psyllium powder.
