going for my 2nd opinion tomorrow and wanted to see what areas you think I should cover w/the Doc?  You two really seem to have a good handle on our disease and I like the questions you ask (me and other ppl on this board).

Hope to hear from you!

Thanks!!!

Hi Beth...I think you pretty much have it covered.

Some suggestions come to mind....

1) Your situation is complicated, you cannot (or suspect you cannot) be on 5ASA meds...what are your options regarding meds and possibly supplements?

2) What side effects of the meds that you're already taking could attribute to your situation.

3) Does he have any other patients who are in the same situation as you are...UC + kidney disease?

That's it for now...

Looking forward to your report.

Agreed, I think you've got it covered as well, just be sure he knows that you're not gonna be one of those "push-over" patients, the kind that hangs off every word a doc says, let him know you're very pro-active when it comes to your health...good luck and let us know how things go.

but still act as though you're proactive and want to work together with the doctor and not a control type of patient......

Remember that doctors see a variety of personalities (and can peg patients quickly) and with your information and your situation, I can't see that you'd be perceived as a push-over since you're seeking a second opinion.

Good questions, thanks so much!! I was thinking of doing a powerpoint presentation too, jk!

I am going to let him know that I definitely want to work together on getting me healthy and staying that way. I am also going to ask him if he had my two diseases what course of action he would take and which Dr's would he see? Might as well get a 2nd for my Kidney Disease as well.........

I'm in service sales so I am used to changing how I deal with each individual person to make them more comfortable and open, but being firm at the same time. Though who knows, I may end up crying my eyes out and looking like a complete mess.........can I blame it on the pred? at only 10mg, he might not buy it!

I hope I am not let down and he is a complete ass or incompetent.

Yes, a full report will be forthcoming!

Thanks again!

That sounds good...afterall I "guess" docs are people too LOL, and some of them really do appreciate an assertive and knowledgable patient, one who cares enough to research their disease and is able to discuss things in an intellegant manner.
