My Uc is sort of behaving itself.  By sort of, I mean I go to the bathroom about once or twice a day with semi solid to D.  It doesn't hurt (rectally) and I don't see any blood.  However I am still getting alot of yellow liquid.  But the weird symptom I am having is that sometimes when I go to the bathroom, it feels like someone punched me in the gut as it's coming out - takes my breath away.  Also, when I am walking every now and then it feels as if someone is stabbing a knife in my left side and sometimes my right (about 3 inches below my rib cage).  It only lasts for a few seconds but it's enough to make me pause.  The left side I can contribute to my Uc but why the right??? Does this sound like it can be gallbladder related?  What does yellow(sometimes green) liquid indicate?  Is that gallbladder too?

Yellow/Green liquid is because it is undigested. Right could be anything or even just indegestion, get it checked out.

Diagnosis Oct 07 and then Aug 08: 2 Patches of Mild Chrohn's Colitis
Medication: 4000mg Pentasa a day, 5mg Clipper Steroid (Beclometasone dipropionate)

Hi Sherry....could very well be gallbladder...could be gas depending on what you've eaten...could be colonic spasming...could be higher up inflammation causing fast expulsion (as LR mentioned)....could be appendix/cecum inflammation...could be right sided ovary symptoms (you ovulating or period soon?)....

Definitely get it checked out.

You could ask the doc for dicyclomine if he can't find a cause.

No, this isn't ovluation pain - though I get that too. This is higher up on the right side. Yeah, I plan on bringing this up to my GI when I see him in September (lordy, I can't believe summer is almost over already!!). I mentioned the yellow liquid before to my GI but he didn't seemed to concerned so I am going to push for more info when I see him.

Hi Sherry - yes, it could be gall bladder or liver problem.  Watch when you eat high fat food - is it worse?  Anyway, please contact your doctor about that one.  I had gallstones and had to have my gallbladder removed.  The new surgery is a breeze but you need to have it done (if you need it) before something serious happens in there for a safe and fast recovery.

Yes, I have had those same symptoms - for me occurring a couple of times a year.  My GI said it was flaring - even without blood or mucous present.  He also did a drug list of everything I was taking.  Do you think you should wait until September?

Hope you feel better

I don't know about the left side pain, but I've had pain under the ribs that sometimes shoots toward my back a LOT of the time.  It's not my gall bladder because it was taken out in 2001.  I've had the burning pain off and on ever since then.  I suspect it's bile duct or liver related, either from the gall bladder surgery or UC (which I've probably had at least since then, just didn't know it).  The pain is usually more nagging and not often unbearable.  To me it feels like bile is not flowing as it should.  My PC basically told me that if my UC is active, the rest of my digestive system will be too, which was I guess his explanation for it.  I haven't discussed it with my GI.

I also get the yellow fluid and I actually thought it was mostly bile.  Now I'm wondering since no once else has suggested it.

I don't get that punched in the gut feeling a whole lot but when I do, wow is that weird and tad painful! The upper right side pain is a new one but once again, it's not frequent. I am getting that yellow sometimes green liquid more and more. So I hope my GI has some answers for me even if it's to ease my mind.

You should, however, get liver enzyme tests done very soon to make sure it's not liver related.

Most definately Q. I get my blood drawn every 3 months because I'm on 6mp and they usually check my liver enzymes in addition to CBC.

The yellow/green substance is bile....secreted by the liver, stored in the gall bladder until you eat.  When you eat it is released to aid in digesting food, if I recall correctly...fats.  It is what gives your poo its color.  When you are inflammed, it is not properly absorbed.  I can understand the left sided pain with the UC, but I am pretty sure the gall bladder is on the right side.  It is worth checking out.  Hope you feel better soon.

I also passed a yellow opaque liquid for about a month. Does that sound like what you have?  If so,.....  I told my GI about it and he did a digital exam shocked and as he took his glove off afterwards he said could see it and that if it didn't go away to call, but he seemed totally unconcerned about it at the time and it did go away after I had my last colonoscopy.
UC diagnosed 10/05, first symptoms 1983
asacol 12/daily and rowasa as needed
Trying out Digestive Fitness Probiotic
past rx: colozal, lialda, canasa

Most likely bile and probably not a concern although mention it to your GI. I see bile frequently with a jpouch.

Sherry, when you say you get liver enzymes checked in your bloodwork, do you know if that is SGOT (AST) and SGPT (ALT), or other tests? I've been getting copies of my own bloodwork results recently and trying to make sense of them. I think those to are the liver related tests they do on me. My SGOT (AST) and SGPT (ALT) have gone up a lot on my latest test but since they are at the high end of the normal range doctor isn't concerned.

Hi All,

New here but not to UC. I agree that the yellow/green stuff is unabsorbed bile. If it's not absorbed, your gut gets rid of it in your poo.

I had a weird flare a few weeks ago, with green/yellow poo, skin issues on finger, feet, and inside of cheeks, stabbing cramps/pain, slight weight loss, but no D - very odd for me and a flare.

Talked to my doctor, who by the way, I love, and we decided to increase my Asacol by 2 tabs/day. Within a week all was well and back to normal.

Do see your doctor before September if at all possible. It's not worth suffering or risking a flare getting worse if he/she can help you.

Cheers,
Elizabeth

Piper_Chris, I am not sure what tests my GI has performed in regards to the liver. All I know is that they will call me and let me know the numbers which is all greek to me because I don't know what they mean.

Hmm interesting. I have the exact same symptoms, right down to the yellow liquid (which I have constantly) but I've never had any blood tests show gall bladder/liver problems. Haven't had any labs in awhile but I always assumed it was just part of the UC.

Female, 23, Ulcerative colitis (pancolitis) diagnosed at age 15; GERD; gastritis; osteopenia in femur head & lumbar spine from long term prednisone use.

Current Meds:
Lexapro 10mg
Trying out Lialda, 2 pills/day
