about 4 weeks ageo i was put in the hospital after loseing roughly 20 lbs. in a week, not being able to drink, or eat, and just useing the bathroom all the time, well i got an colonoscpy(spelling?) and my GI doctor says its is inflamed from my colon to my rectium, so he says i have Ulcerative colitis and put me on 3 250mg pentasa 3x daily and 20 mg predione. That helped enough to get me out of the hospital and slowly started getting better but now i am on the same amount of pentasa but 50 mg of predione and i am still haveing 8-10 stools a day, at night i wake up almost atleast once an hour. But that is it, the pain for the most part is gone, i get a pain in my lower back but thats the only clue i get that i am going to have to use the bathroom soon. I was wondering if i should keep on and hope it slowly gets better or go back to my GI doctor and maybe look for different pills? Also i am worried it will get just as bad agean when i get off the predione, which i am ready to get off of.

Im 16 BTW, and it really quite sucks being perfectly normal 2 months ageo and now knowing i am going to have to take pills the rest of my life.

Thanks

Hi and welcome to Healingwell. It takes a while for the medication to work but you should ask your doc about putting you on rectal meds if you are still having difficulty. Yes, it's a hard slap in the face to have a chronic illness at any age but I imagine it's even tougher when you are younger. You came to the right place for support and I am glad you found us. I have to make only one request of you - can you please change your screen ID? We are a family orientated website and your screen name is inappropiate. Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you soon.

No, no need to create a new account. Just go under your profile in the control panel on the left hand side upper blue bar. Go to edit profile and then you will see display name and you can change it from there.
