Ok, I'm almost 7 months pregnant and on Saturday I had some blood and mucous.  Today was a little less but still there.  My BMs are normal and no urgency.  My question is this, any chance the Tums I took(maybe around 10 in one day) from pregnancy heartburn brought this on?  Should I stay away from them?  I haven't taken any since because I'm scared to, but it would be nice to at least take a couple a day for heartburn.  Oh man..I really hope I can keep this flare under control.  I can't imagine delivering in a flare.  sad    I'm really trying not to freak out.

Oh by the way...long time no see to everyone!  Haven't been on much as I have been in remission for quite some time and pregnancy..a two year..work..and life have kept me busy!

I'm still on 6 Asacol a day which I take at night.  When I saw the blood I upped it to 8 on my own, but will check in with my GI tomorrow to see what she thinks I should do.

Hmn... I was told when I was diagnosed to stop taking Tums and Rolaids because they can mask any real problems.. and can make your stool look black and u could mistake it for blood.

I take Tums on occasion when my Prilosec isn't working that great and I have never had it bother my Uc in the least. It could be that your body is going haywire with hormones - which CAN cause a flare.

Hey, there! Congrats on your pregnancy-- you never told us!!!!!!!!!!  turn  I'd say check with Uma right away; doesn't she respond to e-mail? (I recall reading last fall where another member here who is a patient of hers commented favorably on that.) Definitely take a deep breath & tell yourself that you're not going to panic. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Thanks guys! Sorry about not telling you guys... I have no excuse. I sent Uma an e-mail this morning so I'm sure I will get a response from her(she is really good!), but wanted to get your guys' input as it is hard for me to wait! As for the deep breath...man I wish I could. Seems like when I am heading into a flare I freak out and that causes it to be worse. UGH! I also agree, I definitely think it is hormone related. I was just worried the tums might have aggravated it.

Thanks guys. Gosh I love this forum(and hate this disease!)

Way back when I was pregnant I was told not to take antacids if I had issues with heartburn (luckily I never did with either of my kids, no morning sickness either) things must have changed since then I guess but I think 10/day sounds pretty excessive, pregnant or not...maybe try a different brand if 10/day isn't helping.

The thing I would worry about is the magnesium or sweeteners in the Tums. An excess of either can cause D.

Could you use Zantac or something similar for the heartburn?

My GI(god she is great!) said that I could take prilosec and the Tums could constipate me. She said the blood/mucous could be hemrroids as well, but these are the EXACT same signs I get when a flare is coming on..down to the smell(god I can only say that on this board!!). She wants my OB to run some blood tests and told me to use some enemas just in case. Hopefully everything will be back under control soon. She said if a flare gets really bad you can go into early labor, so that always makes me a little bit worried... I'll keep you guys posted and thanks for all the responses.

By the way PB, I HATE you..no morning sickness or heartburn?? Man!!!!
