Last summer, I had two terrible bouts with nausea. The first one lasted about 3 weeks, and my doctor finally figured out that it was being caused by the Asacol he had me on...1600mg 3X per day. I went totally off that and within one day, I was WAAAAAAYYY better. I lost 30 pounds during that 3 weeks as I could not keep anything down - except the pills of course. I gradually went back on the Asacol.

about 2 months later, I started having the same nausea. My doctor had retired, and I was in the process of getting established with a new doc. I immediately went off the Asacol again, but the nausea persisted. I called the new doc and explained my plight, but the soonest they could get me in was three weeks out. So I took the appointment and resigned myself to living with it. I soon lost another 20 pounds and somehow found a way to put one foot in front of the other. Within about 2 weeks, the nausea subsided, and by the time I went to the new doc, the symptoms were all but gone.

about 3 weeks ago, I felt this nausea coming on again. It starts slow...off and on, and not unbearable. It seems to be food induced. I am hungry, but if I eat, the nausea comes. The longer this goes on, the more horrific the nausea gets. Dry heaves all day long is an understatement. The only relief is sleep. In the last couple of days, it has started to lessen. I am hungry, but I dare not eat. I am drinking Gatorade and sipping chicken broth. Once in a while, I eat a couple of Saltines. Sometimes that is ok, and other times it's hell.

Other facts:
I'm a big girl, so losing 50 pounds was not a bad thing for me.
Before these two episodes, my UC had never really been under control, nor has it been since then.
I have crappy insurance, and if I go to the doctor he will want to do everything from blood work to x-rays to CT scans (and rightfully so) but I cannot afford that unless I am on my deathbed. (which I am not...yet.)

Have any of you experienced any of this. Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks.

Diagnosed in 2005
Ascacol - 9 per day, Entocort when needed - 3 in the morning, Azathioprine, 3 in the morning and 1 other med I can't remember the name of...16 pills total (this is only my meds for UC)
I also take a Lisno/HCTZ for High Blood Pressure, Prevacid for Acid Reflux, a couple Percoset per day for arthritis, and Ambien whenever I'm on Entocort.

That's waaaaay too many meds!

I wish I had some insight for you, I have the exact opposite issue but the same results and the same thing fixed it. . . sleep. I get nausea if i don't eat. If I get hungry the least little bit I'm getting sick. I have to eat small snacks all day. If I get sick once, I'm done for the day, can't eat anthing at all because it comes back and the only thing that helps is to crash and sleep for hours on end, then eat small bits as soon as I wake up or it starts all over again.

what about healthy drinks? When I was at the worst of it I found that keeping something like slim fast (it was the easiest to buy for me) next to my bed and taking small sips when I woke up before i even got out of bed helped me out because then I never got to the nausea stage. I could drink easier than I could eat I found. Once I was drinking steady and feeling semi-ok I'd start with things like toast with jelly or even just a slice of cheese just so I got something in my belly.

It's a terrible sensation and I wish you the best.

oh yeah...I am queezy all the time. I am supposed to eat a lot of little meals all day but sometimes even if I force myself
and take my stomach meds sometimes it stays. Like today I took my pill and ate some eggs & bread. I went to the dentist and
i couldn't get x-rays or get my mouth guard adjusted because I now have a very sensitive gag reflex and was afraid to throw up on the dentist.

I needed to loose the weight too, but even though I can stand to loose a few more- I am trying to be as protective of my immune system as much as possible. Loosing a lot of weight fast is really bad for your immune system.

I eat saltines, I keep hard boiled eggs in the fridge also liquid Kefir drinks. Also even though a lot of people look down on soda, ginger ale helps too.

For my stomach I take Sucralfate 1 gram in the morning (when its at its worst)
