I'm hoping this isn't too early to post (in case I get worse again) but I thought I'd share some good news and I'm getting better though I wished I knew why!

I was flaring and it got to the point where I had enuogh blood every bm to turn the water in the loo crimson, I had severe urgency though was only going maybe 6 or 8x  a day, started having D basically all of the symptoms to make your life miserable.

But a couple of days ago I had no blood and now am going 1 or 2x a day....

I hope it continues for those reading my posts you probably know I tried quite a few things to try and get better and there's no way to figure out what helped though perhaps it's too early to say i'm out of the woods yet?

good news!
no telling if you're out of the woods... time will tell.

Hi Hekela,

I'm a Mommy of a 2 1/2 year old as well, a darling little girl. I found that pregnancy made my Ulcerative Colitis symptoms much worse - but it was so so worth it. I would spend entire nights it seemed on the bathroom floor getting into positions to let the gas out or to let the stool pass through to where I could go. But then when I had the baby it was a little bit better within 2 months or so, and again it was all worth it just to see her precious, tiny face! I got diagnosed in 2002, and have still not had a colonoscopy - which I know I need. I am still nursing my 2 1/2 year old, and I am worried about taking anything. I just want to wean her before I start taking any kind of medication such as Asacol, etc. I have never even tried them because I have been afraid of the side effects (even before I had my baby girl). Does the Asacol work well for you? What kind of relief do you get? Thanks so much, God bless you. Taylor

Thanks for the support, I think the day after this post I was slightly worse again but no blood and over the weekend it has been pretty good though with slight urgency for normal BM's and no blood or abdominal pain. I wonder if even having normal BM's after a flare they feel more urgent or maybe there is still a bit of inflammation left?

I have the feeling something I am doing is making a difference since I was getting noticeably better 1 day then worse the next which it never normally happens like that i.e. it's normally quite gradual. The yoghurt I suspect a bit since it's the sort of thing I eat a lot (1 litre + a day) but then run out and have to wait a day or 2 to make some more.

Healing girl I was not keeping a food/medicine diary at the time so can't pinpoint what may of been having an effect but from what i remember around the time some of all of the following may have helped:

10 asacol tabs/day oral
1 pentasa 5asa supposotory
1-2 litres per day of probiotic yoghurt (home made from natural live probiotic starter and blueberries and honey to taste nice)
3x omega 3 fish oil /day
bacon with 'omlette' of 1-1.5 cups probiotic yoghurt and plenty of spinach
Diet of only fried chicken with ginger or garlic (lots) and corgette, cailiflower and squash pumpkin (no other veg or meat) lots of butter (tastes nice and contains butyric acid 3% which in enema form has been shown to help UC) no sugar no carbs and goats milk in tea
L-Glutamine 1/day

ummm think that's it - I have been reading a lot about anti-oxidants so over the weekend (after i had already shown a lot of improvement) have also been taking:
Vitamin E - 1000mg 3x / day
Garlic capsules
Turmeric 1000mg x 6 / day
I also started on bottled water on Saturday midday....

That is so awesome for you Ian. Even if it is a little break from your symptoms, you deserve the vacation! Now try to think of what you've been doing for the last few days, and repeat it, cause it is obviously working for you.

I noticed you had spinach in your list of things you ate.  Maybe give it a try again - its what I credit my remission to

See my other post on UC, iron and anti-oxidants I tried a low iron diet and got a lot worse very quickly and yesterday tried a high iron diet (including spinach) and I'm a lot better today in fact I think I've gone from 8 bm's to 2 in 1 day... how odd

Anyway I'm off to eat a load of pro-biotic yoghurt, I've got 6 pints i've just brewed (though I wont eat it all at once LOL!)
