Hi Gigi, welcome to HW :) Since you have diverticulosis to get the fiber you need, instead of relying on a high fiber diet, you can try a fiber supplement such as Benefiber, Citrucel or Metamucil. Some Uc'ers can't tolerate fiber supplements though so this is trial and error. Also because of the Divert. try to avoid seeds and nuts because not only will it aggravate that but it can bother Uc'ers as well. It sounds like you are on the right diet for now though so if it is agreeing with you, try to stay with it until you feel better. This other med, is it Asacol? Great job on quitting smoking! That is a very tough thing to do. So you were diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis or just Colitis? If it's Uc, do you know the extent of the disease in your colon?

Yes, I should have put that in - I do know to stay away from seeds, nuts, popcorn and such because of the divirticulosis. And thank you - we (my husband and I) quit smoking March 11, 2008 and I do love being a nonsmoker - LOL except for this colitis. Honestly, right now I truly am confused as to whether it was just colitis or ulcerated. The nurse told me this a.m. that there is a letter coming in the mail as well as another perscription. It has been almost 3 months since I have had a day that I have felt good. I waited really longer than I should have to contact the doctor. I am popular for that! Anyway, I know I must be patient.
