Does anyone recommend a fiber supplement that does not have an artificial sweetener in it?  I think I spent 15 minutes staring at the fiber shelf the last time I was at the my grocery store!  Other than tablets (I prefer not to take one more pill!) only one had no artificial sweeteners in it... metamucil wafers, which I'm currently using.

I'm generally happy with them except that one serving has 120 calories, which seems like a lot.

Before this, I used benefiber wafers which didn't work nearly as well, and I think the artificial sweetener contributed to my problems.  And this is just a hunch, but I suspect that the orange coloring in the benefiber wafers may have tended to make my "D" look more reddish.  Maybe I wasn't bleeding, at least as much as I feared I was, after all.

Have you found a fiber that works and you like?

Try using tabs, they don't generally contain sweetners because there's no need to sweeten a pill...I use Prodiem fibre therapy which is available in some states I believe...I'm in Canada where it's basically a common stool bulker...just don't get confused with their laxative pills cuz they make those too.

I was hoping to avoid tabs because it feels like just one more med.  Some days I feel like I'm going to choke just looking at all of them.

Can you open a tab and add it to food?

Long ago I used a kind of metamucil that was just psyllium husk with no flavoring.  I could see adding that to juice or something.

The Prodiem are actual tabs not caps so you couldn't open them...try the metamucil tabs or caps, they're similar to the Prodiem anyways...there's also some brand out there that comes in a powder so you can sprinkle it into foods I doubt it has sweetners added to it but always read the lables.

i use plain ground psyllium husk and i mix it with juice. i even dilute the juice so i don't feel like i'm drinking quite so much sugar from that. i like it far better than any of the flavored metamucil types that i tried.
you can find it at health food stores. i get mine at vitacost.com for very very cheap.
it does take a little while to mix in, but it is worth it to me to not be drinking the other junk.

hope you can find some!
