Okay, this is kind of gross, I know, but I've been trying to keep to a low residue diet and am eating lots of stuff like bananas and avocadoes, and it made me wonder if there are any foods that could look like mucous in stool.

Using Canasa suppositories every night (and now hydrocortisone ones in the a.m.), it's hard enough to know if there's mucous in there.

I never thought I'd be spending so much time looking in the toilet bowl!
Dx ulcerative proctitis June 2008 (after 5 weeks of blood and mucous)
Canasa 1000 mg suppositories nightly
Effexor 37.5, Clonazepam .5 mg and Trazodone 50 mg for sleep
2.5 mg methimazole for thyroid

Hmm, I never really thought about that, I would think probably not though because they'd still have to go through the digestion process and come in contact with the bile and whatnot, so it shouldn't come out clear or white. It is frustrating though trying to tell if it's mucous or the suppository! Every morning my first BM is usually mostly mucous/blood (before the enemas) and now that I've added the enemas I can't tell what is going on because the white liquid looks so similar to what I was experiencing before anyway.

Oh yeah... I've also been frequenting Yahoo! Answers lately out of boredom, and someone posted a question that said "Do you check the toilet after you have a bowel movement to see what your stool looks like?" And I was really surprised at how many people said "Ew! Gross!!" "No way! Why would you do that??" So of course I had to answer and said "Well of course I do, otherwise I wouldn't know if there was a ton of blood mixed in or not" hahah.

lol, edie.

emory - Could it be some of the Canasa coming out and looking like mucous? I think I've had that happen before.

Sara, in the a.m. I've assumed it's Canasa (and lots of it! totally weird looking), but this is later in the day and evening. It's probably just mucous, lucky me!

Thanks!
