I've had no problems with turkey, which is a relief because I love it! I use ground turkey for burgers, sloppy joes; turkey italian sausage for pastas; and I've also found that many of the "fake" meat products are pretty good if you can get over the fact that it is soy. When I've got the bacon jones, I get Smart Bacon, which is soy, but it tastes pretty close to the real thing...the texture leaves a little to be desired as well. Beggars can't be choosers though!
Fructose and sugars in general are often a probelm food for UCers because the bad bacteria in our guts love sugars (and fats and alcohol and lactose). The best way to find a good diet for yourself is trial and error. Maybe keep a food diary for a couple of weeks, and make sure to track symptoms as well. Sometimes my body doesn't have a reaction for 24 hours after I've eaten something, then I'd forget what it was that had got me. I also only cook for one which makes it easier. I hope you can find meals agreeable to your family.
